  • Patent number: 5133512
Abstract: The lap winder has two rotatable lap rollers which support a lap during winding. A drive motor drives the lap rollers through the intermediary of a transmission or gearing. A brake mechanism acts on at least one of the lap rollers or on an element co-rotating or fixedly connected for rotation with one of the lap rollers. When the lap winder stops then the brake mechanism is actuated and takes-up the kinetic energy of the lap rollers and that of the lap supported on the lap rollers. The braking forces for the lap rollers and for the lap therefore do not have to be transmitted through the transmission or gearing. There are thus avoided heavy loading and wear of the transmission or gearing.

  • Patent number: 5060346
Abstract: The combing machine comprises a continuously rotatable circular-comb cylinder carrying a circular-comb segment and detaching segment. The detaching segment cooperates with a detaching pressure roll. The combing machine also contains a nipper unit comprising a lower nipper which is stationary relative to the axis of the continuously rotatable circular-comb cylinder, and an upper nipper which is movable relative to the lower nipper. The fibers detached by the detaching segment together with the detaching pressure roll are sucked as fiber clusters into a suction shaft or tube, or can be united to form a sliver at a rotatable screening or sieve drum. The suction shaft includes a flexible membrane to close the shaft. The combining machine is of simple construction and economical to manufacture and renders possible a high operating speed and, therefore, a higher output, particularly in the absence of a top comb between the lower nipper and the detaching pressure roll.

  • Patent number: 4947521
Abstract: The combing machine comprises a nipper unit possessing a bottom nipper and a top nipper which is pivotable relative to the bottom nipper about a pivot axle. An additional nipper is pivotable relative to the bottom nipper about a shaft or journal which extends at a suitable distance from and substantially parallel to the pivot axle of the top nipper. The additional nipper is coupled to the top nipper by means of at least one link. In this manner, pivoting movements of the top nipper cause the additional nipper to be pivoted each time in the opposite direction with respect to the direction of motion of the bottom nipper. When the nipper unit is in an advanced end position, the top nipper is open and the additional nipper is closed. The additional nipper firmly holds the lap, and a tuft combed out of the latter is detached by a detaching roll. No separate pivot drive is required for the additional nipper.

  • Patent number: 4565337
Abstract: A winding apparatus for forming laps has two winding rollers and on each side thereof a carrier arm for receiving a lap bobbin. Each carrier arm is pivotably connected on one end with a sliding guide and on the other end with a pivoting mechanism. A hinge joint and a pivot pin provide these pivotal connections. The pivot mechanism is pivotally supported in side walls of the apparatus by shafts. The pivotal movement is accomplished by a pressure air cyclinder. During pivoting of the pivoting mechanism about the shafts the carrier arms are shifted in a predetermined direction. In FIG. 1, the lowermost position of the therein depicted carrier arm is shown in which the lap bobbin rests on the winding rollers. Through rotation of the winding rollers the lap bobbin rotated and takes up a web delivered from calender rollers for the formation of a lap. The build-up of the lap causes lifting of the carrier arms in such predetermined direction.

  • Patent number: 4413378
Abstract: The present invention concerns a method for processing a fiber sliver in a drafting arrangement, and a drafting arrangement for implementing the method. The objective for a drafting arrangement, which can be adapted to a wide range of staple lengths, to draft a fiber sliver at high speeds, has led to the following features of the invention:(a) The fiber sliver is deflected simultaneously in the drafting process systematically in such a manner that, the fiber sliver can be inserted into the subsequently arranged funnel and the subsequently arranged pair of calender rolls without further deflection.(b) All bottom rolls are fixedly arranged.(c) The first pressure rolls limiting the pre-drafting zone and the main drafting zone, respectively, are arranged to be shiftable along an arc about the rotational axis of the corresponding bottom roll in such a manner that the drafting zones are adaptable to the fiber length.

  • Patent number: 4384388
Abstract: The working conditions between two rotating cylinders (4,5), which are provided with a point clothing (9,19) and are processing or mutually transferring a fibre web, of a processing machine of the staple fibre spinning plant are always maintained on a predetermined value by adapting the distance between the surfaces of the two cylinders (4,5). For this purpose moving means (21) are used, which permit very precise setting of the distance between the rotational axes (8,14) of the two cylinders (4,5), and which are controlled by control means (22). To the control means (22) the measuring signal of a characteristic directly connected with the diameter of one of the cylinders (4 or 5), as scanned by a measuring element (25), is transmitted, and the control means (22) control the moving elements (21) in function of this characteristic. Thus complete elimination of the disturbing influences of the centrifugal force and of the increase in temperature of the cylinders onto the working conditions is achieved.
