Publication number: 20240228180Abstract: A sorting system conveys a heterogeneous mixture of material pieces past an XRF system and a vision system. A classification of a material piece is changed to a high copper content aluminum alloy when the XRF system classifies the material piece as a low copper content aluminum alloy and the vision system determines that the material piece is a thin strip material piece. The reclassified material piece is then sorted accordingly.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 20, 2023Publication date: July 11, 2024Applicant: Sortera Technologies Inc.Inventors: Lakshmi Chellappan, Manuel Gerardo Garcia, JR., HOANG TRIET GIANG Le, Casey Hughlett

Publication number: 20240228181Abstract: When x-ray fluorescence (“XRF”) spectroscopy is utilized to classify materials transported on a moving conveyor belt, there is the possibility of the x-ray beam only partially irradiating the material piece, which can result in the capture of an inaccurate XRF spectrum needed to classify the material piece. This can lead to an improper (erroneous) classification and resultant sortation of material pieces (e.g., aluminum alloys). In a material handling system, the area of the intersections between the x-ray beam spots from an x-ray fluorescence system and the material pieces are measured and correspondingly used to correct the measured XRF spectrum associated with each material piece. The material pieces can then be sorted according to the corrected XRF spectrum.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 20, 2023Publication date: July 11, 2024Applicant: Sortera Technologies Inc.Inventors: Lakshmi Chellappan, Manuel Gerardo Garcia, JR., Hoang Triet Giang Le, Casey Hughlett

Patent number: 10050585Abstract: A crystal oscillator is started in a high power mode for a certain period of time to ensure starting oscillation with average grade crystals, then once the certain time period is over the oscillator switches into a low power mode and sustains oscillation with energy pulses triggered by and synchronized with the oscillator output frequency. These energy pulses may be generated on the positive, negative or both positive and negative edges of the clock output waveform.Type: GrantFiled: June 16, 2016Date of Patent: August 14, 2018Assignee: MICROCHIP TECHNOLOGY INCORPORATEDInventors: Ajay Kumar, Giang Le

Patent number: 5948542Abstract: A colored anodic coating for use on surfaces of substrates, e.g. aluminum substrates in which it is desirable to maintain a high solar absorptance (.alpha.) and a high infrared emittance (.epsilon.), particularly in low earth orbit space environments. This anodic coating is preferably a dark colored coating, and even more preferably a black coating. This coating allows a touch temperature within an acceptable design range to preclude burning of an astronaut in case of contact, but also allows a solar radiation absorption in an amount such that an .alpha./.epsilon. ratio of unity is achieved. The coating of the invention comprises a first layer in the form of an acid anodized colored anodic layer for achieving a high solar absorptance and a second or high emittance layer in the form of a clear acid anodized layer for achieving a high emittance. The entire coating is quite thin, e.g. 1-2 mils and is quite stable in a hostile space environment of the type encountered in a low earth orbit.Type: GrantFiled: March 18, 1996Date of Patent: September 7, 1999Assignees: McDonnell Douglas Corporation, Aluminum Finishing Corp.Inventors: Huong Giang Le, John L.
