  • Patent number: 4168930
Abstract: The apparatus to be described comprises a trolley and track disposed crosswise of the carrying vehicle positioned between its front and rear wheels and elevated above the vehicle frame. At an end of the trolley track a cradle is affixed so as to tilt about a horizontal axis normal to the track. The trolley is provided with lifting hooks adapted to engage the trunnions of a slag pot resting on the ground and lift it above the vehicle frame. The cradle is provided with upstanding hooks which receive the slag pot trunnions when the pot is moved by the trolley into the cradle. Means are provided to tilt the cradle. The cradle frame is open toward the trolley so that the cradle partially encloses the slag pot during the dumping operation. The vehicle frame is of the fork or wishbone type open at the rear so that the vehicle can be backed to enclose a slag pot resting on the ground.

  • Patent number: 4054217
Abstract: A load-lifting assembly adapted to be attached to the bed of a trailer vehicle comprises a mounting platform affixed to the bed, a pair of hydraulic cylinders attached to the mounting platform with their piston rods extending below the mounting platform on each side, and a cross member attached to those piston rods and extending crosswise of the bed. An inverted U-shaped structure is carried by the cross member, the legs of the U extending upwardly therefrom at each end, and the cross bar of the U being positioned above the vehicle bed. In each leg of the U is journalled a vertical shaft which extends below the cross member and carries at its lower end a swing load-supporting member which swings from a load-carrying position crosswise of the bed to a load-clearing position parallel with the bed. Means for rotating the vertical shafts are attached to the cross bar of the U, and means are provided for locking those shafts to the vehicle bed.

  • Patent number: 4022342
Abstract: A self-loading rubber-tired carrier comprises a tractor and a trailer adapted to carry elongated loads slung below it. The rear end of the trailer is pivotally supported on a double-axle bogie having its own engine, and releasable means are provided for rotating the bogie in correspondence with angular movement between trailer and tractor so that the apparatus can move from a traveling position with tractor and bogie aligned with the trailer to a loading position with tractor and bogie at an angle to the trailer, with skidding of the bogie wheels no greater than skidding of the tractor rear wheels.

  • Patent number: 4009790
Abstract: A rubber-tired in-plant slag pot and scrap box carrier utilizes a tractor unit and a trailer unit comprising a load-carrying bridge and rear idler wheels, which latter are mounted individually to permit the trailer unit to straddle the load. From the bridge depend hooks which may be carried by a pair of trolleys movable crosswise of the bridge, the hooks being adapted to pick up a slag pot by its trunnions and carry it beneath the bridge. Affixed to the bridge is coupling apparatus adapted to make connection with the trunnions when the hooks raise the slag pot and to tip the slag pot about its trunnions, so dumping out the slag broadside of the carrier.

  • Patent number: 3999672
Abstract: Apparatus for automatically picking up and transporting elongated loads having one end only raised above ground comprises a tractor-drawn trailer with an elevated bridge from which a pair of load supporting yokes is suspended. At least one of the yokes is suspended from a trolley movable lengthwise of the bridge and that yoke is suspended outside the other yoke so that when it is lowered below the other yoke it can be moved past it. The inside yoke may also be suspended from a trolley which moves along a path independent of the path of the first trolley.
