  • Patent number: 7634703
Abstract: A decoder for a wireless communication device comprising a calculator for calculating the modulo of a linear approximation of a MAX* function; and a selector for selecting a MAX* output value from the group a(n)mod F, b(n)mod F, and the calculated modulo based upon a determination as to whether a predetermined threshold value for |a(n)?b(n)| has been met, where a(n) is a first state metric, b(n) is a second state metric, C is the predetermined threshold value and F is a value greater than |a(n)?b(n)|.

  • Publication number: 20090015448
Abstract: A decoder comprising a decoding element arranged to operate in a first mode for decoding a turbo encoded data stream and in a second mode for decoding a viterbi encoded data stream, wherein the decoding element is responsive to a first control signal for switching from the first mode to the second mode during decoding of a turbo code block and responsive to a second control signal for switching from the second mode to the first mode to allow continued decoding of the turbo code block.

  • Patent number: 7370332
Abstract: An arrangement and method for Turbo processing iterative decoding in a radio receiver comprises receiving a block of data for decoding; decoding a whole block of data to produce a respective decoded output; dividing the received decoded whole block of data into a plurality of sub blocks; producing a determination of whether the decoded output of each of the sub blocks has substantially converged; storing said determination for each of the sub blocks; and further decoding over the whole block of data only sub blocks whose determinations do not indicate substantial convergence.

  • Publication number: 20070101231
Abstract: An interleaver for a turbo encoder and decoder comprising a first table populated with a first set of parameters to allow intra-row permutation of data within an array in accordance with a first wireless communication standard when operation in the first wireless communication standard is required and a second table populated with a second set of parameters to allow inter-row permutation of the data in accordance with the first wireless communication standard when operation in the first wireless communication standard is required wherein the first table is populated with a third set of parameters to allow intra-row permutation of data within an array in accordance with a second wireless communication standard when operation in the second wireless communication standard is required and to populate the second table with a fourth set of parameters to allow inter-row permutation of the data in accordance with the second wireless communication standard when operation in the second wireless communication standard i

  • Publication number: 20050232377
Abstract: A channel estimation method suitable for use in a CDMA communications system employs a high order interpolation using four interpolation points per slot. Four FIR interpolation filters (18-21) produce a channel estimate for each quarter of a slot by weighting the summed pilots of four slots by amounts related to pre-computed polynomial co-efficients. The invention has been shown wot mobiles and has the advantage of low computional complexity.

  • Publication number: 20050071726
Abstract: An arrangement (100) and method for Turbo processing iterative decoding in a radio receiver (10) using a stopping criteria scheme in which a block (110) to be decoded is divided into smaller sub blocks and the stopping criteria are computed separately for each sub block. Further decoding iterations (140) are performed only on those sub blocks whose stopping ctiteria have not ben met. The stopping criteria used in each sub block can be any of the prior art criteria such as CE, SRC, HDA or preferably LAA stopping criteria. The invention can therefore have similar properties as the prior art (in terms of performance and complexity) combined with a lower average number of iterations and reduced power consumption. The same scheme may serve both for stopping criteria and abort criteria, reducing hardware compared to separate criteria, and reducing the worst case requirement for decoding rate (and reducing corresponding hardware requirements).
