  • Patent number: 5122072
Abstract: A connector for electrically connecting a plurality of electrical conductors of a first busway section to a plurality of electrical conductors of a second busway section. The electrical connection is accomplished by a plurality of pairs of electrical joint connectors, each pair having an independently operable rotational clamping mechanism for clamping that pair of joint connectors tightly to corresponding electrical conductors of the first and second busway sections. An activating cap is used to manually rotate the clamping mechanism between a first and second position. In the first position the pairs of joint connectors are clamped tightly to the busway conductors. In the second position the pairs of joint connectors are loosened permitting an easy insertion or removal of the busway conductors. The pairs of joint connectors of opposite polarity are separated from each other by a phase insulator. Phase insulators also separate the electrical phases from a protective enclosure surrounding the busway.

  • Patent number: 4714431
Abstract: An improved plug-in assembly facilitating the tap-off of electrical current from bus bars carried in a busway section that includes opposite side rails and a plurality of plug-in openings formed in each of the side rails in back-to-back association or registration with each other. The plug-in assembly includes a substantially symmetrical insulating base and a door, each swingably connected to the side rail. Ears formed in the side rail adjacent the plug-in opening are aligned with ears formed on the door and a drive screw extends through holes in each pair of ears and into an opening in a support post provided on the side of each base. The screw is fittingly retained in the ear of the side rail while the door and base members fit loosely over the drive screw to permit those parts to swing between an open and a closed position. A metal cover latch is self-retained in one of a pair of symmetrically positioned latch retaining grooves on the front of the base which retains an integral catch portion on the door.

  • Patent number: 4673229
Abstract: An improved housing for a busway system is provided by a two-piece ground bus which includes a generally U-shaped upper section having a top portion and a pair of parallel side flanges extending a predetermined distance and a generally U-shaped lower section having a bottom portion and a pair of parallel side flanges extending intermediate and parallel to the side flanges of the upper section. The main bus bars are retained intermediate the top portion and the bottom portion of the ground bus while also being positioned between the side flanges of the upper section of the ground bus. A side rail is provided on each side of the ground bus. A plurality of fasteners extend along the length of the busway section and connect each side rail with both the upper and lower sections of the ground bus.

  • Patent number: 4272643
Abstract: A fire resistant fitting including a pair of plates having a fire rated expandable material therebetween and a pair of conduits extending from each plate with one conduit of each pair in alignment with a respective conduit of the other pair and a respective passage in the expandable material to extend separate power and communication connections through a floor. Threaded members extend from one plate through the other plate for squeezing the expandable material against the sides of the floor opening in which the fitting is located and stops on the threaded members prevent the application of excessive force to the material.

  • Patent number: 4270318
Abstract: A fire resistant fitting for use in sealing a floor hole and including a pair of plates having an expandable material therebetween for securing the fitting in the hole and a fire resistant material suspended in the opening from the lower plate by a simple twistable metal tang.

  • Patent number: 3943272
Abstract: The fitting is mountable on a cellular steel floor or deck prior to pouring of the concrete of a completed floor and comprises a separable flat base plate, a box-like housing, and a cover plate. Two self-grommeted openings in the base plate are axially aligned with respective openings of substantially equal size leading to adjacent cells of the deck, and a tab on the base plate at one of the grommeted openings interlocks with the deck to hold the base plate in position. Horizontally directed slots formed in the base plate along one longitudinal edge thereof cooperate selectively with tabs on the lower longitudinal edges of the housing to lock the housing on the base plate selectively in either of two positions. Screws or rivets may be used as additional fastening means for the base plate and housing.
