  • Patent number: 4388153
Abstract: A coke oven battery servicing apparatus includes a coke catching and collecting bucket movable from a first position adjacent the oven to a second position clear of the oven and a coke guide cage having an opening therein which is complementary to the bucket. When in the first position the bucket collects coke spillage during oven door extraction and door jamb cleaning. When the coke guide is positioned for pushing, the bucket is moved into a third position in which the bucket is removably inserted into the aforementioned opening to become integral with the coke guide cage. The collected coke spillage is then pushed together with the coke from the oven through the guide means for disposal in a quenching receptacle or car.

  • Patent number: 4363411
Abstract: A hammerhead type of crane has a structural tower with opposed structural cantilevers extending horizontally therefrom and there is a horizontal track along which a load carrying trolley may move through the tower between limits near the outer ends of the cantilevers and a second horizontal track along which a counterweight may travel at the same speed and distance but in the opposite direction and with the load trolley and counterweight passing each other as they move through the tower from one cantilever to the other. The counterweight is moved by means of a cable that has its opposite ends attached to the counterweight and which between its ends is wound about a reversible drum arranged to selectively move the counterweight in one direction or the other.

  • Patent number: 4351431
Abstract: The load carrying upper reach of a belt conveyor particularly useful for transporting large pieces of rock and other heavy bulk material dispenses with the usual idle troughing rollers and is supported by an endless succession of spaced transverse flexible cross members or hammocks each of which has a trolley at each end riding on endless rails extending along each side of the belt and around the rollers at the head and discharge ends of the belt conveyor. Along the return strand of the conveyor belt the hammocks are above the belt but rest on it. The side-to-side distance between rails is less than the width of the conveyor belt so that the weighed belt cradles itself in the hammocks. However, at the head end of the conveyor there is a decending traveling belt ramp and at the discharge end an upwardly sloping belt ramp to flatten the hammocks and the belt for passage around the head and tail pulleys respectively. In these areas, the rails spread apart to take up the slack in the hammocks.

  • Patent number: 4270982
Abstract: This invention provides an apparatus for the single spot servicing of a coke oven on the coke side of an oven battery. The apparatus includes a turret with oven servicing heads affixed thereto and mounted for rotational movement on the free end of a support arm which is mounted for pivotal movement about a fixed point on the car. Pantographic like linkage is provided to coordinate the rotational and pivotal movement of the turret assembly. A coke guide carriage is mounted for reciprocal movement along a rail system consisting of two rails in an angled relationship. The carriage and turret are mounted on the car to permit the sequential indexing of these servicing devices for use at a selected oven in the battery without repositioning of the servicing car relative to the battery.
