    Abstract: The present invention relates to a new packaging material in the form of a unitary laminate sheeting. The package-forming material comprises a unitary sheeting of a first paper layer laminated to a water-impermeable plastic film for forming a package which encloses and seals an article therein. The film and paper layer advantageously have the same dimensions, and the laminate has a surface that is receptive to receiving adhesive or cohesive materials. A coating of cohesive material covers at least a portion of one of the first and second outer surfaces, and the packaging material can be placed about an article to be packaged such that a first portion of the surface of the packaging material that includes cohesive material contacts another portion of the surface that includes cohesive material to adhere such portions to each other and form a sealed package which encloses the article. Also, the adhered cohesive portions can form an adhered band which completely surrounds the article to be packaged.

    Abstract: A plastic-paper-plastic laminate sheeting whose plies have different properties that depend on package requirements, with the outer and inner plies in the laminate being oriented, synthetic plastic films of high tensile strength. The plies are adhesively interlaminated to an inner ply of paper at ambient temperature with a water-based adhesive whereby the orientation of the film is unaffected by the laminating process, in the course of which no environmentally objectionable fumes are discharged into the atmosphere. The laminate may also be made into a water-resistant envelope or package for mailing various materials.

    Abstract: A heat-activated sealing tape for manufacturing or sealing a carton or other article. The tape is composed of a paper layer, a layer formed of oriented plastic film which is adhesively laminated to the paper layer, and a heat-activatable adhesive exposed for use in adhering the paper-plastic film laminate to an object. The heat activatable adhesive is inactive at ambient temperatures. When exposed to low temperature heat sealing conditions, the adhesive is activated and enables the tape to be adhered to the article to be sealed. The sealing tape is designed for ease of handling and reduction in waste, and is adaptable for use in existing automatic and semi-automatic equipment for manufacturing or sealing cartons.

    Abstract: A container having walls made of a paper/plastic laminate having a cardboard core sandwiched between inner and outer face liners, wherein at least one of the face liners is comprised of a face liner laminate. The face liner laminate is composed of an exterior ply of oriented synthetic plastic film whose opposing surfaces are rendered wettable by corona-discharge treatment, and a base paper ply is cold-laminated to the film ply and adhered to the core of the board. The cardboard core may be a fluted medium of corrugated paper board, or it may be a planar stiff paper core. The invention is also directed to a structural member for use in making inexpensive furniture comprising a supporting member and a cardboard core laminated to a face liner laminate. The film ply of the laminate enhances the strength of the container or structural member and imparts water resistance thereto. Because the exposed surface of the film ply is printable, it may have decorative graphics or other printed matter applied thereto.
