    Abstract: An alternator has a rotor with a plurality of permanent magnets disposed between opposing claw pole members and a field coil. The plurality of permanent magnets are secured to at least one ring-shaped carrier which surrounds the field coil and locates the magnets into appropriate positions between the fingers of the claw pole members.
