    Abstract: A scanning background member is provided with two or more superimposed line sets or density patterns of having frequencies unrelated to each other that can be detected by a background detection circuit of a document scanner. The multifrequency edge detection arrangement may also control various image movement and modification features that CCD or full-width array sensors may be used to produce accurate edge detection with minimum processing hardware. Detection of differing frequency density patterns or line sets on the scanning background permits the scanner to precisely determine the edges and cutout areas of a scanned original sheet, while employing minimized hardware and software processing requirements. Frequency-related or other edge detection errors that may result from image patterns, moire effects or other inherent, problematic or random sheet/image conditions may be greatly reduced if not eliminated.

    Abstract: An apparatus in which a developer roller transports insulating developer material into contact with a flexible member in a development zone so as to develop a latent image recorded thereon. The flexible member is maintained at a preselected tension. In this way, the developer material being transported into contact with the latent image spaces the flexible member from the developer roller. The thickness of the layer of developer material on the developer roller is adjustable to control the spacing between the flexible member and the developer roller. In this way, development of solid areas and lines in the latent image may be optimized.

    Abstract: A flash fusing system for fusing toner images onto support material in which the support material is transported in a path past one or more flash fusing lamps. The flash fusing lamps are coupled to a circuit including a power supply voltage which is adjusted by an input from a sensing circuit including, a photodiode which measures the density of the unfused toner images on support material and converts the information into electrical signals. The electrical signals are supplied to an integrator which in turn is coupled to the power supply voltage of the circuit for energizing the flash lamps.
