The reactor includes a plurality of staged air orifices that create a vortex in the combustion chamber. The vortex increases the residence time of the introduced gas molecules and thus facilitates complete combustion at lower temperatures.

    Abstract: A kinetic dissociator is formed by a primary combustion chamber and a secondary combustion chamber. The primary and secondary combustion chambers are connected by at least one flow stabilization tube. A source of high temperature, high velocity gas is provided by at least one high speed combustion jet axially aligned with the flow stabilization tube such that the jet gas mixes with a process gas passes through the tube and impinges against a conically shaped wall forming a portion of the secondary combustion chamber.
