  • Patent number: 9083381
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for determining at least one parameter of an error correcting code implemented on transmission, termed a “coding parameter”, by analyzing a binary train received. The method implements a first step making it possible to coarsely define said at least one coding parameter, and a second step making it possible to refine said at least one coding parameter.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 6, 2011
Date of Patent: July 14, 2015
    Assignee: Universite de Bretagne Occidentale
Inventors: Roland Gautier, Eric Rannou, Mélanie Marazin, Gilles Burel

  • Patent number: 5408585
Abstract: A method of internal connection for neural network linking successive neuron layers and useful in image analysis and image and signal processing is provided. The neuron output states of a new neuron layer are represented by functions obtained by the method. A weighted summation of functions which represent the output state of a neuron from a preceding layer is carried out. A saturation function is applied to the result of the weighted summation. A function is outputted which is representative of the output state of the neuron layer.

  • Patent number: 5369503
Abstract: The method of picture compression consists:in processing a current displaced pixel block in the picture to be compressed by using a network of N neurons, 1 to N, disposed in a single plane, each neuron having a number of inputs equal to the dimension of the blocks extracted from the picture, and such that, after a learning phase during which the network has auto-organised so that the neurons represent most probable input values, each neuron receives on its inputs, at the same instant, the pixels of the current block and outputs a signal, or potential, d.sub.j, which is positive and is all the lower the nearer is the state of the corresponding neuron j to the state of the inputs e.sub.i,in coding the current pixel block through a code associated with the neuron j whose potential d.sub.j is minimal. The invention applies, in particular, to the compression of television pictures.

  • Patent number: 5321771
Abstract: A device for automatic image segmentation according to the invention comprises a data processor associated with a network of automata organized in three levels; the inputs of each of the automata are weighted by adjustable coefficients; the number of automata of the first level is equal to the number of characteristic values computed from observation windows taken firstly in a set of examples of image zones having different textures. Learning by the network permits adjustment of the weighting coefficients of the automata of the network until all the examples of the same texture lead to the same configuration.

  • Patent number: 5313534
Abstract: A method for the compression of images comprises two steps. A first step of vector quantization compresses a source image into an image of indices that is coherent in relation to the source image. A second step again compresses this image of the indices according to a prediction method using a network of multilayer neurons. Application: compression of images for their storage and transmission.
