  • Patent number: 7885315
Abstract: The specification and drawings present a new method, system, apparatus and software product for pilot scrambling using a scrambling code (e.g., pseudo-noise code such as a Gold code, a Kasami code, a Hadamard code, m-sequences, etc.) in communication systems, e.g., for wireless communications. The sector/cell specific scrambling codes are mapped to the multiple pilot symbols within, e.g., an SCH (synchronization channel) repetition period. This improves receiver performance on a sector edge and/or a cell edge in, e.g., tight-frequency re-use applications.

  • Publication number: 20100177654
Abstract: Various embodiments are disclosed relating to carrier selection for a home network. In an example network, a method may include using a first carrier frequency to transmit in a downlink direction to a mobile node in a home wireless network, and receiving, from the mobile node, a signal strength measurement for each of a plurality of carrier frequencies. The method may further include receiving, from the mobile node, an error report for the first carrier frequency, and determining that a link quality for the first carrier frequency is below a threshold based on the error report. The method may further include selecting a second carrier frequency from the plurality of carrier frequencies based on the determining and based on the signal strength measurement of the second carrier frequency, and changing, based on the selecting, from the first carrier frequency to the second carrier frequency to transmit data in a downlink direction to the mobile node.

  • Publication number: 20100098031
Abstract: Disclosed herein are apparatus, methods and computer program products for performing cell acquisition and pilot sequence detection in a cellular telecommunications system such as, for example, an OFDM system. In the apparatus, methods and computer program products, a primary synchronization channel sequence and a secondary synchronization channel sequence are transmitted by a base station in a sub-frame of an OFDM downlink frame. In one embodiment, the primary synchronization channel sequence, secondary synchronization channel sequence, and system information are mapped to a plurality of sub-carriers in an FDM signal. At the user equipment, coarse synchronization is performed during cell acquisition by performing a cross correlation between the signal and a reference primary synchronization channel sequence stored in a memory of the user equipment.

  • Publication number: 20090125363
Abstract: A frame structure for scheduling radio resources includes a first time slot, followed by a plurality of other time slots each having either a second length, or a first length that is approximately double the second length. Transmissions are sent in downlink ones of the other time slots and received in uplink ones of the other timeslots. In various embodiments, the first length is 1.35 ms/19 symbols and the second length is 0.675 ms/9 symbols; the first timeslot is downlink and has length 0.852 ms/12 symbols; there is an additional guard period of 26 microseconds between the first timeslot and the other timeslot that follows the first timeslot which is uplink and has the first length; there may also be a single symbol between the guard period and that uplink timeslot for uplink signaling; and all other timeslots that are downlink are of the second length.

  • Publication number: 20080298474
Abstract: A source sends an encoded data block during a first time interval to a destination and to a relay. The source sends additional parity bits for the encoded data block during a second time interval. The relay partially decodes that encoded data block to a process-defined end point (typically only a partial decoding), such as a fixed number of decoding iterations. After partial decoding the relay forms a modified data block having corrected information bits and the parity bits of the block it received, and sends the modified data block to the destination, during the second time interval. The destination decodes to a results-defined end point the modified data block it received from the relay using the additional parity bits it received from the source. If that end-point cannot be reached, the destination may begin anew decoding the original encoded data block it received from the source.

  • Publication number: 20080081634
Abstract: A method, mobile device, network device, system, and software are devised for storing a received specification of one or more thresholds regarding when to provide uplink feedback. The mobile device receives a multimedia broadcast multicast service via high speed downlink packet access over a high speed physical downlink shared channel, and then determines whether to provide the uplink feedback about the packet access. This determination is based upon whether channel quality falls below one of the thresholds, or based upon whether indications about a need for retransmissions exceed one of the thresholds.

  • Publication number: 20080070581
Abstract: An apparatus, method, and software product are for a broadcast service or a multicast service by a point to multipoint transmission, for reception by a plurality of terminals. It is then determined whether reception by some of the terminals is substandard, and in those cases the multicast service is provided from the point via a point to point transmission. The point to multipoint transmission occurs at simultaneous times with each of the point to point transmissions, and the point to multipoint transmission uses a common downlink transport channel with the point to point transmissions.
