  • Publication number: 20160105862
Abstract: A method of fast synchronization for low coverage machine type communication (MTC) devices is proposed. A machine-specific synchronization signal “mSYNC” with higher density in time and frequency is transmitted from each base station for fast timing and frequency acquisition and tracking. The mSYNC has a relatively longer periodicity (i.e., >>5 ms) to reduce overhead and inter-cell interference. The higher time-frequency density of mSYNC is designed to improve latency and power consumption by allowing the machine to wake up just before the scheduled mSYNC transmission time and to re-synchronize or track synchronization with the network without the need for long averaging time.

  • Patent number: 9247554
Abstract: Apparatuses, methods, computer programs, and computer-readable media are disclosed. A network node defines two or more user device groups, one of the user device groups using a licensed frequency band and another using an unlicensed frequency band. Timing advance parameters of user devices are determined. The user devices are assigned into one of the user device groups based on comparison of the timing advance parameters in such a manner that if a magnitude of differences of timing advance parameters of the user devices having mutual machine-to-machine communications exceeds the a timing advance parameter of at least one user device communicating with the network node, the user devices having the mutual machine-to-machine communications are directed into the user device group using the unlicensed frequency band for decreasing interference.

  • Patent number: 9237584
Abstract: Systems and techniques for managing the use of industrial-scientific-medical bands for cellular network communication. An apparatus comprises a processing system and a memory storing a set of program instructions. The processing system is configured to cause the apparatus to receive channel information from a UE reporting the control of an industrial-scientific-medical (ISM) band channel by the UE and cause the apparatus to schedule a communication session with the UE over the channel, with the channel being configured and activated as an ISM secondary component carrier (SCC). The apparatus may further request one or more user equipments (UEs) to report their wireless fidelity (WiFi) capability and request user equipments having WiFi capability to compete for the wireless medium and report occupation of the wireless medium in the form of a request to send command, to which the apparatus responds with a clear to send command.

  • Patent number: 9232550
Abstract: A method is provided for facilitating device-to-device communication. The method may include causing a message to be sent to a first device to trigger the first device to transmit a reference signal. The method may further include causing a request for a channel quality indication to be sent to a second device. The request may indicate that the channel quality indication is to be based on measurement of the reference signal. The method may additionally include receiving the channel quality indication in response to the request. The channel quality indication being indicative of a link quality between the first device and the second device. The method made also include determining based on the received channel quality indication whether to cause establishment of a device-to-device link between the first device. A corresponding apparatus and computer program product are also provided.

  • Publication number: 20150280894
Abstract: A wireless device is operated such that transmission and reception by the wireless device uses half-duplex frequency division duplexing. The wireless device transmits in an uplink subframe at a first frequency and receives in a downlink subframe at a second frequency. The uplink subframe and downlink subframe occur at different times. The frame structure that is used has a special subframe (80) to allow at least switching from downlink reception to uplink transmission. In one example, the special subframe (80) consists only of a downlink pilot time slot (85), to allow downlink pilot signals to be received at the wireless device, and a guard period (90), during which no data is received at or transmitted by the wireless device. In another example, the special sub frame (80) comprises a downlink pilot time slot (85) and a guard period (90), the special subframe (80) having no uplink pilot time slot for uplink pilot signals.

  • Patent number: 9049666
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided that may enable the provision of machine to machine (M2M) communication in a wireless network environment. In this regard, for example, relatively low power devices (specifically referencing low transmission power) such as sensors or other machines in an M2M system may be enabled to communicate with a mobile terminal via a first carrier when the power ratio between the average received machine power and the average downlink received cellular power is below a threshold value and communicate with the mobile terminal via a second carrier if the power ratio exceeds the threshold value. Thus, only one carrier may be needed by devices in such an environment in order to perform M2M communication.

  • Patent number: 8953467
Abstract: There is transmitted to a user equipment UE in a first subframe of a radio frame a downlink shared channel DSCH according to a first relay-transmission mode (e.g., mode A or A? in the examples); then switch to a second relay-transmission mode (e.g., mode C or C? in the examples) within the radio frame based on a channel quality of the DSCH. After switching, then transmit to the UE, in a subsequent subframe of the radio frame, the DSCH according to the second relay-transmission mode. In this embodiment the HARQ process is synchronous and non-adaptive for mode C: the eNB re-transmits packets to the UE in a predetermined fashion to be concurrent with transmission of those same packets from the relay node, as scheduled by the eNB. In this embodiment the eNB receives the UE's NACK for the data that is to be retransmitted via relay through the relay node.
