  • Patent number: 9986868
Abstract: A brewing device (2) for an espresso-type coffee machine including a brewing chamber (12) for receiving ground coffee, a movably mounted pressure piston (13) in translation with a stroke that extends from an upper retracted position in which the pressure piston (13) is located above the brewing chamber (12) to a lower tamping position in which the pressure piston (13) enters said brewing chamber (12) and a potentiometer controlled by driving means during the stroke of the pressure piston (13) to measure the tamping position of said pressure piston and to thereby calculate the height of the compressed cake of ground coffee. The driving means only act on the potentiometer for a portion of the stroke of the pressure piston (13).

  • Patent number: 8181565
Abstract: A method for measuring a quantity of coffee MNi or MTi that a grinding burr of a coffee mill driven in rotation by a motor dispenses in a predetermined number of revolutions Ni of the grinding burr or in a predetermined time interval Ti. According to the method: the average speed Vi of the grinding burr in a number of revolutions Ni or respectively in a time interval Ti is measured; and the quantity or mass MNi of coffee dispensed in the number of revolutions Ni or respectively the mass MTi of coffee dispensed in the time interval Ti is deduced as a function of the speed Vi from an experimentally obtained stored correspondence table (Vi, MNi) or (Vi, MTi).

  • Patent number: 8179072
Abstract: A method for counting the number of revolutions of a burr of a coffee mill driven in rotation by an electric motor. According to the method: at least one electrical parameter Pi of the motor that varies in proportion to the speed of said motor is measured in a regular time interval Ti; the speed Vi in each time interval Ti is calculated from the parameter Pi based on an experimentally obtained relation; and the number of revolutions Ni made by the burr in each time interval Ti is calculated from the speed Vi determined.

  • Patent number: 8042455
Abstract: An automatic dispenser of ground coffee having: a reservoir having a flow outlet opening and adapted to contain a quantity of ground coffee; at least one paddle mounted to rotate in the bottom of the reservoir to transfer a predetermined quantity of ground coffee from the reservoir through the flow outlet opening; and a motor assembly connected for driving the paddle in rotation. The motor assembly is composed of: a motor having two input terminals via which operating current is supplied to the motor; and a control circuit having at least one component connected to establish a short circuit between the two terminals after the supply of operating current to the motor has been cut off.
