Abstract: Apparatus for effecting safe handling of biological and/or chemical materials, the apparatus comprising: a housing enclosing a workspace, wherein the housing comprises an opening for accessing the workspace; a sash mounted to the housing, the sash being configured to move between a closed position in which the sash covers the opening of the workspace and an open position in which the sash does not cover the opening of the workspace; a ventilation system disposed in the housing for drawing air out of the workspace; a motor for moving the sash between the open position and the closed position; an external power source for operating at least one of the ventilation system and the motor; and a secondary power source for operating at least one of the ventilation system and the motor when the external power source cannot deliver power to operate at least one of the ventilation system and the motor.

Abstract: This assembly includes a system for communicating information by radiofrequency waves having at least one element for transmitting or receiving radiofrequency waves which is associated with the cabinet and at least one element for transmitting or receiving radiofrequency waves which is carried by an implement for receiving products so as to determine whether the receiving implement is inserted into the cabinet or is extracted therefrom. The cabinet constitutes a first element and the receiving implement a second element. The communication system includes at least two elements of transmission or of reception, associated with one of the elements and spaced along a direction (D) intended to coincide with the direction of insertion (S), so as to communicate with at least one element for transmitting or receiving radiofrequency waves which is associated with the other of the elements, in an order representative of the insertion or extraction of the implement from the cabinet.
