  • Publication number: 20120284021
Abstract: A method of processing an audio signal in a communications network, the method comprising: receiving, at a speech buffer, a first portion of the audio signal over the network from a base station of the network, the speech buffer being configured to store and subsequently output the first portion of the audio signal; determining the presence of an interruption to the received audio signal, the interruption being such that a subsequent portion of the audio signal which is intended to be output from the speech buffer immediately following the output of the first portion is not stored in the speech buffer at the time that the subsequent portion is intended to be output from the speech buffer; in the event that the presence of the interruption has been determined, appending a second portion of the audio signal to the first portion in such a way as to form an output audio signal having no signal discontinuities in the time domain, the second portion having a predetermined duration and having a pitch matching that o

  • Patent number: 6499008
Abstract: A radio signal transceiver receiving at its input a speech signal and producing an output signal at a given output rate, the speech signal having undergone a source coding intended to sufficiently compress the input signal to obtain the desired output rate while an acceptable distortion ratio is maintained. In order to improve the compromise of transmission quality of the speech signal and transmission rate by selecting the optimum coder from the available coders, the transceiver comprises a measuring device for measuring the distortion of the output signal of a coder and a check circuit for comparing the estimated distortion with set values and deriving therefrom the optimum coder for the measured distortion.

  • Patent number: 6487529
Abstract: An audio processing device includes an analyzer and a filter. The analyzer extracts an envelope of a noise signal and derives therefrom noise envelope parameters. The filter has coefficients which vary in response to noise envelope parameters and filters a useful signal to form a filtered signal. The coefficients are varied so that the filter enhances frequency bands of the useful signal that correspond to frequency bands of the noise signal having a higher energy than a predetermined value.

  • Publication number: 20020150183
Abstract: This apparatus (1) is intended to be connected to a cellular telephone network which transmits data in frames (HTR). This apparatus comprises a data reconstructing device (30) triggered by a signal (BFR) which indicates received bad data of a frame before this frame is reconstructed. The data are reconstructed by means of established waveforms of correctly received preceding data. The frame is reconstructed by copying the estimated waveform (westi) as many times as necessary.

It is an object of the invention to improve the compromise of transmission quality of the speech signal and transmission rate by selecting the optimum coder from the available coders. For this purpose, the transceiver comprises measuring means for measuring the distortion of the output signal of a coder and check means for comparing the estimated distortion with set values and deriving therefrom the optimum coder for the measured distortion.

  • Publication number: 20020004716
Abstract: The invention relates to a transmitter and a receiver for extending the spectral band of the signal at the receiving end, the transmitted signal being encoded in the narrow band. The invention comprises means for predicting a wide-band signal on the basis of the narrow-band signal, representing the original signal, means for estimating a prediction error by comparison of the prediction with the original signal, and means for transmitting the prediction error with the signal encoded in the narrow band so as to contribute to the reconstruction of a wide-band signal at the receiving end.

  • Publication number: 20020004717
Abstract: The invention relates to the transmission and reception of encoded narrow-band signals. At the transmitting end, the signal to be transmitted is encoded in a band which is narrower than that of the original signal, and at the receiving end this signal is decoded so as to restore the contents of the transmitted message. After decoding, the spectral band of a received signal is extended so as to improve the audio quality of the signal at the receiving end. At the transmitting end, the analysis means are provided for extracting characteristic parameters from the original signal, which parameters are not comprised in the signal encoded in the narrow band. Information comprising these parameters is transmitted in addition to the narrow-band encoded signal. At the receiving end, this information is used for reconstructing a wide-band signal from the signal received in the narrow band and from the received information. Application: digital telecommunication, mobile radiotelephony.

  • Patent number: 6167371
Abstract: A filter device filters a speech signal that has a frequency spectrum featuring slopes separated by valleys. The filter device amplifies the slopes and attenuates the valleys for improving the intelligibility of the signal. The filter device includes a predictive speech signal analysis circuit for determining a polynomial whose coefficients are Linear Predictive Coding (LPC) parameters. The filter device further includes a calculator for synthesizing a digital post filter of the zeroes/poles type based on this polynomial. An extraction circuit of the filter device taps values of poles by extracting roots of the polynomial, and an interpolation circuit between the values of poles derives therefrom the zero values of the post filter.

  • Patent number: 6138094
Abstract: In a speech recognition method and system a spoken word to be recognized is broken down into input vectors (K2a), ambient noise is evaluated (K1), a recognized word is chosen from a dictionary having associated reference vectors which are separated from the input vectors by a shortest distance (K3), and the recognized word is validated by a comparison of this distance with a threshold value which is derived as a function of the result of the evaluation of ambient noise. The ambient noise evaluation may be carried out at an instant when the speaker is silent, i.e. either before or after the speaker speaks the word to be recognized.

  • Patent number: 6078883
Abstract: For training a speech recognition to a multi-item repertoire, the following steps are executed: a speech item is presented by a user person, and the distinctivity thereof in the repertoire is asserted. Under control of a distinctivity found the speech item is inserted into the repertoire. These steps are repeated until reaching repertoire sufficiency. In particular, the asserting determines a likeness among the actually presented speech item and all items already in the repertoire, wherein undue likeness with one particular stored item creates a contingency procedure. This implies offering to the user a choice between ignoring the actually presented speech item and alternatively inserting the actually presented speech item at a price of deleting the particular stored item.
