  • Patent number: 4632289
Abstract: There is disclosed a collapsible load carrier for the roof of a hardtop motor vehicle. This carrier comprises an open frame defining a flooring, two end walls, and two side walls. Securing members releasably connect the frame to the roof of the car and are mounted to the end walls of the rack. The flooring is spaced from the roof, because the securing members extend downwardly below the level of the flooring. Each side wall is made of two sections interconnected by hinge members at the rack center. These hinge members enable the collapse of the side walls against the end walls, inwardly thereof. The flooring consists of two sections, each formed by spaced transverse rods which are rotatively interconnected by pairs of transversely-offset band-like rigid links. The sections are releasably interconnected at the center of the carrier and can be collapsed against the respective end walls.

  • Patent number: 4257729
Abstract: A hand truck for transporting loads which obviates the necessity of tilting the load prior to positioning the latter on the hand truck. The hand truck is devoid of any bottom plate and carries a pair of jaws clampable on the top flange, or bead, of a load and which suspends the load along the inclined truck frame when the truck frame is moved about on its wheels. The hand truck is further characterized by the provision of a foot-operated jack mechanism to raise the clamped load along the truck frame, so that the load may be deposited at any desired elevation when its destination is reached. The jaws are so arranged that they automatically increase the clamping pressure clamp on the load bead, or top flange, when the load exerts a downward pull on said jaws.

  • Patent number: 4121893
Abstract: A ball and socket coupling in which the ball is positively retained within the socket by means of a cap, removably secured to the socket for closing the open end of the latter and having a hole through which the ball stem extends. The cap hole allows pivotal movement of the ball relative to the socket. The socket and the cap have inter-engaging interrupted threads for securing and releasing the cap by a simple one-quarter turn of the same. A lever is pivoted to the cap and engages between ears on the socket in the secured position of the cap to provide a safety lock. The resulting coupling is much stronger than conventional ball and socket couplings, because the cap forms an abutment face all around the ball.

  • Patent number: 4111147
Abstract: A boat anchor which includes a hollow shank having a line attachment eye at one end and protruding fins at the other end. Anchor flukes are pivoted to the fins for movement between three positions, namely: an operative position extending generally laterally away from the shank, an anchor-releasing position in which the anchor flukes extend longitudinally of the shank and away from the line attachment eye, and a storage position in which the anchor flukes extend alongside the shank towards the eye; shear pins carried by the fins are broken by the anchor flukes under the application of a predetermined load to permit pivotal movement of the anchor flukes into their anchor-releasing position. A spring-loaded plunger resiliently maintains the anchor flukes in either one of their storage and operative positions. A stop bolt can be adjusted to block the plunger into a position in which it positively locks the flukes in their operative position, whereby anchor-releasing is no longer possible.
