  • Patent number: 5388851
Abstract: Front ski binding designed to hold the end of a boot supported on a ski. The binding comprises a base (3) and a body (8) which moves in relation to the base (3) and parallel to a vertical median longitudinal plane of the ski. The body carries, moreover, a mechanism (15) for position retention of the front end of the boot. The front parts of the body (8) and the base (3) are connected, so as to allow the body (8) to pivot in relation to the base and parallel to the vertical, median longitudinal plane of the ski. An elastic return mechanism (30), distinct from the elastic return device (26) which returns the wings (21) of the position-retention mechanism, connects the body (8) to the base (3) and elastically returns the rear part of the body (8) toward the base (3).

  • Patent number: 5211419
Abstract: A ski binding apparatus and method for facilitating the mounting of a ski binding onto a ski. The ski binding apparatus of the invention includes a body which carries a jaw for retention of a ski boot and a base affixed to the lower portion of the body. The base has holes for receiving screws for mounting the binding to the ski. Further, the base has a lower surface, a frontal surface, and a longitudinal groove formed in the lower surface. The longitudinal groove extends to and opens into the lower surface and the frontal surface of the base. A retention element is slidably received within the groove and extends therefrom in a transport and preassembly position of the binding apparatus.

  • Patent number: 5116073
Abstract: A safety ski binding having a longitudinal slide affixed to the ski and a body supporting a retention jaw for one end of a boot to be mounted on the ski and an energization mechanism for the jaw, the body being solidly affixed to a base mounted for longitudinal sliding on the slide, a mechanism to immobilize the base and, consequently, the body on the slide in one of several different longitudinal positions. The immobilization mechanism includes, on one of the two elements that the base and the slide constitute, a succession of notches generally aligned longitudinally, forming a rack, respectively determining the different longitudinal positions that the body can occupy on the slide and, on the other element, an elastically biased latch having, with respect to the succession of notches, at least one tooth.

  • Patent number: 5114173
Abstract: A safety binding apparatus for alpine skiing. The binding includes a longitudinal slide affixed to the upper surface of the ski, a body solidly affixed to a base longitudinally slidably mounted on the slide and including a retention jaw, preferably for the rear end of the boot, as well as an energization mechanism for the jaw, an elastic return device which includes a recoil spring for biasing the body towards the front, and a linkage device positioned between the body and the ski, permitting an adjustment of the longitudinal position of the body of the binding. The elastic return device is mounted in a housing formed in the upper surface of the ski and the recoil spring is inserted between a support element solidly affixed to the ski and the linkage device.

  • Patent number: 5102157
Abstract: A safety binding for a ski adapted to maintain the front of a boot mounted on the ski. Each journal axis of a wing which pivots with respect to the body is engaged in at least one oblong hole for allowing relative displacement over a short distance of the wing with respect to the journal axis and it is in contact under the effect of an energy generating mechanism against a first end of the oblong hole. In the rest position, the wing rests, through its front edge, against a fixed support line of the body situated, in projection, in a vertical and transverse plane, between the journal axis of the wing and the end portion of the front arm in contact with the energy generating mechanism.

  • Patent number: 5016902
Abstract: A safety ski binding includes two lateral retention wings movable about respective journal axes. Two frontal support elements are also journalled about the journal axis and include rolling rear surfaces which support and roll against the sole of a ski boot during lateral release of the boot from the binding. The rolling surfaces includes arcs of a circle having different radii of curvature.

  • Patent number: 5004065
Abstract: A ski brake adapted to be mounted on a ski having a longitudinal ridge. The configuration of the surfaces of the rib control the activation of the braking elements. In the inactive position, each braking element is located in the dihedron-shaped space formed by a side of the rib and the upper edge of the ski.

  • Patent number: 4938497
Abstract: A binding for retaining an end of a boot upon a ski. The binding includes a body, a device for securing the body to the ski, and a retention jaw for engagement with the end of the boot in an engagement position. The retention jaw includes a first arm and a second arm mounted on the body on respective sides of the longitudinal axis of the binding for lateral movement with respect to the body, and a first wing and a second wing mounted for lateral movement, respectively, on the first arm and on the second arm. The first wing and the second wing have a closed position in which the first wing and the second wing are substantially fixed for movement with the first arm and the second arm, respectively. The binding further includes a mechanism for elastically biasing the jaw in the engagement position and the wings in the closed position. Further, a member is provided for connecting the first wing and the second wing together for lateral movement and a linking mechanism for the first wing and the second wing.
