  • Patent number: 8502975
Abstract: A Multiple-Field-Of-View (MFOV) lidar is used to characterize the size and concentration of low concentration of bioaerosol particles. The concept relies on the measurement of the forward scattered light by using the background aerosols at various distances at the back of the sub-visible cloud. It also relies on the subtraction of the background aerosol forward scattering contribution and on the partial attenuation of the first order backscattering. We demonstrate theoretically and experimentally that the MFOV lidar can measure with a good precision the effective diameter of low concentration bioaerosol clouds.

  • Publication number: 20100153846
Abstract: A system is disclosed that includes a media player that plays media files, memory storing a plurality of media files, and a media manager. The media manager generates a new playlist of media files based on one or more characteristics associated with a currently playing media file and provides the new playlist to the media player for playback.

  • Publication number: 20060250221
Abstract: A system for minimizing maintenance of tower mounted strobe light warning systems, the system comprising a first station located on the tower, the first station having a flash head and at least one capacitor mounted therein, and a second station mounted proximate a base of the tower, the second station including a switching power supply and a controller assembly. The above arrangement provides for a method of minimizing maintenance since most of the components are mounted proximate the tower base.

  • Publication number: 20060130304
Abstract: An extraction tool for extracting an object. The extraction tool includes a gripping portion for gripping the object and an impact generating portion connected to the gripping portion. The impact generating portion includes the guiding section, a mobile section connected to the guiding section and mobile with respect thereto, and a stopper connected to the guiding section for stopping a motion of the mobile section. Upon the mobile section being accelerated towards the stopper and thereafter stopped thereby, the mobile section exerts an impact force onto the stopper. The impact force is transmitted to the object through the gripping portion. The impact force is directed substantially away from the gripping portion.

  • Patent number: 6088976
Abstract: The removable non-skid pad covers a portion of a corresponding step of an exterior stair or staircase so as to allow people to use it more safely. The pad comprises a main section to be disposed on the upper horizontal portion of the step, a preformed substantially hooked-shaped from section having one end integrally connected to the front end of the main section so as to fit around the front edge and a part of the bottom portion of the step near the front edge, and a rear section having one end integrally connected to the rear end of the main section. A binding assembly is provided to removably attach the front and rear sections under the step. The pad may be easily installed and removed. Any snow or ice accumulations may be easily dislodged by removing the pad and skating it.

  • Patent number: 5964316
Abstract: In a vertical radio-frequency wave radiating structure to be climbed by a person, there is provided a fall prevention system. This fall prevention system includes a safety rope, made of a radio-frequency wave resistant material, to receive an individual safety harness. A first end of the safety rope is attached to an upper section of the vertical structure, while the second end of that safety rope is attached to a lower section of the vertical structure. Preferably, the safety rope comprises a polyurethane resin impregnated aramid fiber core protected with a thick extruded jacket of polyurethane.

  • Patent number: 5889369
Abstract: To extend the lifetime of an incandescent lamp having a sealed glass envelope, an inert gas or gas mixture contained in the glass envelope, a tungsten filament mounted in the glass envelope, a hollow bulb screw or prefocus base mounted to the glass envelope, and first and second lead in wires for electrically connecting the tungsten filament to the base, a first rectifying diode is connected in series with the tungsten filament. Connected in parallel with the first rectifying diode is a series circuit including a resistor connected in series with a second rectifying diode. The first and second diodes are connected in opposite directions whereby the first rectifying diode applies to the filament the positive half-cycles of an alternating supply voltage, and the second rectifying diode applies to the tungsten filament the negative half-cycles attenuated by a voltage drop within the resistor.

  • Patent number: 4695792
Abstract: A method and system for simultaneously detecting the amplitude and phase angle of harmonics in a periodic signal. A tunable tracking filter is connected to an input of the system to receive a periodic signal having a frequency within a predictable range. A conditioning circuit is connected to the input to tune the tracking filter to a selected harmonic in the periodic signal. A programmable frequency multiplier forms part of the conditioning circuit and is connected for locking the clock frequency of the filter to tune it to the selected harmonic of the periodic signal to provide at its output an output signal having the amplitude and corresponding phase of the selected harmonic.
