  • Patent number: 8974344
Abstract: A mounting system for a planetary gear train in a gas turbine engine comprises a support strut, a deflection flange and a deflection limiter. The support strut extends between a stationary engine case and a rotating engine shaft that provides input to the planetary gear train in the gas turbine engine. The deflection flange extends from a rotating output component of the planetary gear train. The deflection limiter is connected to the support strut and engages the deflection flange when the gear train becomes radially displaced.

  • Patent number: 5102379
Abstract: A planetary gear system includes a plurality of planet gears, each having a journal bearing and a pin, end supported in a planet carrier. Each pin has a small diameter central portion axially extending for end support. A larger diameter outer portion is integral with the central portion at an inboard merged zone, and has cantilever sections extending outboard from the merged zone. Each pin is sized such that bending of the merged zone in one direction is countered by bending of the cantilever sections in the other direction to achieve a substantially linear bearing surface under load.

  • Patent number: 4563129
Abstract: A combined counterrotation propeller and reduction gear in which the shaft for the forward propeller also carries the pinions of the reduction gear and the hollow shaft for the rearward propeller also carries the ring gear in mesh with the pinions. The bearings for the propeller shafts also support the elements of the reduction gear.
