Abstract: An on-line coater apparatus is disclosed for coating a web of paper. The apparatus includes a dryer section having a plurality of single-tier dryer groups, each successive group drying an alternate side of the web, the web being restrained against cross-machine directional shrinkage during passage through the plurality of dryer groups. A further single-tier dryer group is disposed downstream relative to the plurality of groups such that the web extends in an open draw between the plurality of groups and the further group. A tail cutter is disposed adjacent to the open draw for cutting a tail from the web for subsequent threading through the further group. A calender is disposed downstream relative to the further group for calendering the dried web. A coater is disposed downstream relative to the calender for coating one side of the web, and a single-tier coating dryer group is disposed downstream relative to the coater for drying the coated one side of the web.

Abstract: The coating head substantially comprises an elastic blade thrust against the paper sheet which is transported by a rotating cylinder, and a chamber fit for containing a coating suspension which is delimited by a portion of the outer surface of the cylinder and by the blade and which communicates with a feeding line of the suspension; moreover, said chamber is delimited by a deflector plate, the position of which, in relation to the cylinder, can be adjusted so as to define an exhaust port for the coating suspension between it and the surface of the cylinder; according to the invention, the deflector plate is provided with a blocking element which can be elastically deformed and fit for limiting the passage of the coating suspension through said exhaust port, said element presenting a free edge facing the cylinder which is parallel to the cylinder axis.

Abstract: A mechanism for producing plastic filaments including a means such as an extruder for supplying continuous plastic filaments, drawing the filaments over an arcuate nonfriction surface of a heated heat transfer plate in heat transfer engagement therewith while subjecting the filament to radiant heat opposite the plate, and applying an axial stretching tension to the filament.
