  • Patent number: 11111011
Abstract: A rotor for an aircraft capable of hovering includes a stationary support structure and a rotative element which is rotatable about an axis with respect to the stationary support structure. The rotor has at least one blade, which is operatively connected with a rotative element. The rotor has a source of a magnetic field, which is either stationary or driven in rotation at a first rotational speed and an electric conductive element, which is operatively connected to the rotative element and can be driven in rotation at a second rotational speed different from first rotational speed. An electric conductive element is electromagnetically coupled so that an electromotive force is magnetically induced in electric conductive element itself Two rings extend radially inward from a tubular body of the rotor hub with the first ring connected to a plurality of thermally conductive rings of a flow deflector at an axial end of the rotor and the second ring supports the electric conductive element.

  • Patent number: 9948157
Abstract: A containing casing for a stator of an electric machine defines, around said axis, a compartment to house the stator. A first radially inner part and a second radially outer part are coupled to one another and define together at least one duct surrounding the axis for the passage of a cooling fluid. Said duct comprises, in turn, a plurality of first sections and a plurality of second sections, which are distributed around the axis alternated with one another. The first sections are arranged around the axis with an arrangement that supports the motion of the fluid around the axis. The second sections are transverse to the first sections and at least partially obtained inside respective protuberances of the first radially inner part, which project towards the inside of the compartment. A space for the insertion of radially projecting portions of electric windings of the stator is defined between two consecutive protuberances around the axis.

  • Patent number: 9912203
Abstract: An axial-flux electric machine with a winding rotor comprises a stator section and a rotor section, both developing around and axis. The rotor section comprises a rotor, which, in turn, comprises a toroidal rotor core made of a ferromagnetic material and a plurality of windings and of teeth, which are angularly distributed on the rotor core in an alternated configuration. The teeth have, on at least one lateral surface of theirs, a shaped profile defining at least one holding surface, which is such as to cooperate with a resin matrix, which is suited to steadily lock the teeth on the rotor core.

  • Patent number: 7332837
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for an axial electric motor. The apparatus comprises, a stator having coils thereon for producing a magnetic field, a rotor rotated by the magnetic field, an output shaft coupled to the rotor, and a ring incorporating a coolant channel circumferentially engaging the stator for absorbing heat and reaction torque from the stator. It is preferable that that the ring have inwardly extending teeth that mesh with the coils on the stator. The space between the teeth and the coils is preferably filled with a substantially solid thermally conductive material to transmit stator reaction torque to the teeth and cool the stator. The coils are preferably formed from a flat ribbon a portion of whose principal surface is perpendicular to the teeth. A supporting frame is desirably fixedly coupled to the ring and rotatably coupled to the output shaft.

  • Publication number: 20050035678
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for an axial electric motor. The apparatus comprises, a stator having coils thereon for producing a magnetic field, a rotor rotated by the magnetic field, and an output shaft coupled to the rotor. The rotor includes a magnetic and non-magnetic component. The non-magnetic component has a lower density than the magnetic component. One or both of the rotor components have apertures therein for ventilation and weight reduction. Permanent magnets are desirably mounted on the magnetic component of the rotor facing the stator and portions of the rotor behind the permanent magnets are hollowed out to be thinner than portions of the rotor between the permanent magnets. This reduces rotor weight without significantly affecting magnetic flux density in the rotor or motor torque.
