Patent number: 8454359Abstract: An orthodontic bracket having an opening for receiving a wire, but without a base to create a lever arm when the bracket is oriented in free space at a customized angle relative to a tooth surface. The bracket can be embedded into or encapsulated by an adhesive that is bonded to the tooth. A clip is provided for holding the bracket in position and occluding the opening while the adhesive is applied. And indirect methods of attaching the brackets to teeth are provided wherein the brackets can be attached to the lingual side of the teeth in a low-profile arrangement. A first method includes the step of positioning the brackets on a physical model of the teeth by using a positioning machine. A second method includes the step of positioning virtual brackets on a virtual model of the teeth using software, then generating a physical transfer try using rapid prototyping.Type: GrantFiled: May 31, 2012Date of Patent: June 4, 2013Inventors: Brian C. Reising, Giorgos Hatzilias

Publication number: 20120281071Abstract: A device for scanning a body orifice or surface including a light source and a wide angle lens. The light from the light source is projected in a pattern distal or adjacent to the wide angle lens. Preferably, the pattern is within a focal surface of the wide angle lens. The pattern intersects a surface of the body orifice, such as an ear canal, and defines a partial lateral portion of the pattern extending along the surface. A processor is configured to receive an image of the lateral portion from the wide angle lens and determine a position of the lateral portion in a coordinate system using a known focal surface of the wide angle lens. Multiple lateral portions are reconstructed by the processor to build a three-dimensional shape. This three-dimensional shape may be used for purposes such as diagnostic, navigation, or custom-fitting of medical devices, such as hearing aids.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 12, 2012Publication date: November 8, 2012Applicant: 3DM SYSTEMS, INC.Inventors: Harris Bergman, Scott Cahall, Giorgos Hatzilias, Karol Hatzilias, David G. Publication number: 20100222684Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus for estimating physical parameters using three dimensional representations. In one aspect, predetermined light patterns are projected onto an object and light patterns resulting from an interaction of the projected light patterns and portions of the object are detected. Three dimensional locations of multiple light elements in the detected light pattern are determined, and physical parameters of the object, for example, weight, are estimated based on the locations.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 3, 2010Publication date: September 2, 2010Applicant: Body Surface Translations, Inc.Inventors: Karol Hatzilias, Giorgos Hatzilias, James Alan Burns Emsley, Harris Bergman, Chris Van Buren, John Durbin, Nate Bergland

Patent number: 7340835Abstract: A housing with at least one elongate chamber for a hot dog, a series of transverse blades for slicing the hot dog laterally into a number of disc sections, and at least one longitudinal blade for slicing the hot dog lengthwise, for example into quarters. The housing includes two parts that rotate or otherwise move relative to each other to make the transverse slices. Preferably, the first part of the housing includes a hopper with a retainer surface and the second part of the housing includes a series of transverse blades that rotate to transversely slice the hot dog. Furthermore, the two parts preferably include alignable openings permitting the transversely sliced hot dog to fall into the chamber for longitudinal slicing. Preferably, a plunger pushes the hot dog into the longitudinal blade to slice the hot dog lengthwise.Type: GrantFiled: January 9, 2006Date of Patent: March 11, 2008Assignee: Katie Lane Corp.Inventors: Shelly S. Howman, Karen L. O'Kelley, Giorgos Hatzilias

Publication number: 20080056691Abstract: Various embodiments of devices and methods for indicating the level or amount of a vaporizable material in a dispenser, such as an air freshener device or insect control system, are disclosed. An embodiment of a dispenser includes a housing with a reservoir and wick that may be removably coupled to the housing. A circuit within the dispenser measures a property in the wick, such as an electrical property, or a level of vaporizable material in the reservoir and triggers an indicator that provides a visual or audible signal to the user advising that the reservoir is low or empty.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 21, 2007Publication date: March 6, 2008Inventors: James Wingo, Edward Kaucic, Ike Haldopoulos, Mark Peterson, Giorgos Hatzilias, John Taylor
