  • Publication number: 20240078961
Abstract: Systems and methods are described herein to control brightness based on image content or other inputs to a display system. A dual-control system may integrate both slow control operations and fast control operations into a cohesive brightness management system. By using both shorter-term (e.g., fast control) and longer-term (e.g., slow control) brightness adjustment operations, the electronic device may quickly respond to high luminance and high brightness situations that may cause burn-in into the display, image artifacts, or other damage. Responding quickly to these high consumption situations may prevent damage or perceivable upset to an ongoing process, among other benefits.

  • Publication number: 20210389816
Abstract: Direct access to device functionality from a low power state of the device is provided. The direct access can be provided without an initial user input to wake the device or the display of the device before activating the desired functionality. The low power state of the device may include a low power state of the display in which the time is persistently displayed, and may include a low power state or an inactive state of a main processor of the device. The direct access can be provided by detecting a type, location, or other aspects of a user input received while the device is in the low power state.

  • Patent number: 9820355
Abstract: An electronic device may be provided with a display mounted in a housing. A directional ambient light sensor may measure the intensity and direction of ambient light. The ambient light sensor may be mounted in alignment with a light sensor window formed in an inactive area of the display. The ambient light sensor may be formed from detectors on a semiconductor substrate. Incident light angle restriction structures may define openings for each detector. Each opening may be configured to allow light with a different range of angle of incidence values to be passed to a respective one of the detectors. The ranges of acceptance angle for adjacent detectors may overlap. A sensor may produce a diffuse light reading by processing ambient light data from a diffuse light detector and a directional light detector. The diffuse and directional light detectors may be formed on a common semiconductor substrate.

  • Patent number: 7809211
Abstract: Image normalization examines the pixels of two frames, most commonly sequentially obtained sub-images, and mathematically determines the displacement of those pixels from the first frame to the second based on pixel data. The pixel data is obtained from a scanning device, and may be for example grayscale value. The image may be for example that of a user's fingerprint, and the image normalization used to form a computed image of the fingerprint from a plurality of sub-images obtained from a fingerprint scanner. The computed image may be stored, compared to a reference frame or otherwise processed, for example for identifying the user.
