  • Patent number: 5881617
Abstract: A bar feeding device for multi-spindle machine tools includes a rotating drum provided with a plurality of guides for the bars, which longitudinally extend in different angular positions on the outer surface of the drum. Bar pushing members slidingly movable along the guides are connected to a control system comprising a set of peripheral gears circumferentially arranged at one end, and supported to rotate with the drum, coplanarly around a central pinion gear connected to a drive motor. The pinion gear is tangentially arranged in an offset angular position to selectively engage each peripheral gear over a predetermined arch shaped path by rotation of the drum.

  • Patent number: 5860340
Abstract: A guide device for rotatably supporting and for guiding a bar to a spindle of a machine tool; the device comprises: a first and a second set of opposed jaws to receive and rotatably support a bar to be fed to the spindle of the machine; one set of jaws is rotatably journalled by support members to rotate between a closed and an open condition of the guide. Axially spaced apart support members are provided for removable journalling the first and the second set of jaws, and a square rod system longitudinally extending between adjacent support members to slidably engage each set of jaws, preventing rotation of the same jaws in respect to the support square rods. Removable shaft members are provided in the square rod system for rotatably journalling the supporting rods for movable jaws, and elastically biasing elements to rotate the square rods and the set of movable jaws towards the fixed set of jaws of the guide device.

  • Patent number: 5320008
Abstract: A bar feeder for a machine tool, comprising a first guide and first pushing member for feeding bars in alignment with a spindle of the machine. A second bar guide and a second pushing member are laterally arranged to the first pushing member. A drive slidably moves the pushing members in a feeding direction of the bars. The first pushing member and second pushing member conjointly with the second bar guide are reciprocally alignable with the first guide. A programmable control unit (PLC) sequentially actuates the pushing members in an aligned condition with the first guide to forward a bar and insert it in a spindle maintaining an inoperative condition of the machine, and to forward by steps the bar along the spindle at each working cycle of the machine.

  • Patent number: 5066185
Abstract: A bar feeder for machine tools, comprising at least first and second carriages for bearing the bars, the carriages being movable along guide rods which are supported at their ends so as to freely oscillate with the carriages and the bar. The guide rods bear the carriages by sliding bushes which maintain the bars parallel and at a suitable distance from one another during oscillations. A supplementary bar guide comprising a bar pushing member is supported between a position coaxially arranged with the supporting carriages and a side or underlying position.

  • Patent number: 4700593
Abstract: A guide for use in feeding metal bars to a machine tool comprises a plurality of side-by-side units (11) mounted on a drum (21) and each consisting of two equal and substantially semi-circular parts (12, 13), fixed and movable respectively, provision also being made for control means operatively connected to the movable part (13).The parts (12, 13) are each restrained at their own opposite ends, which are provided with stops, to respective rods (17) mounted on a bearing structure (18) fixed to the drum (21). Between the fixed and mobile parts there act one or more springs which thrust the movable part against the fixed part in the guide closure position.

  • Patent number: 4667789
Abstract: A device for controlling in sequence or at the same time the feed of metal bars into a suitable guide equipment for supplying the bars to an automatic multi-spindle lathe is described. In order to connect the main control or drive to the bar feeding apparatus, the device includes a clutch, the coupling and decoupling of the clutch being caused by the rotation of the guide equipment. The portion of the clutch which is connected to the drive can rock around the axis of its support on the fixed frame during the coupling operation, and a return spring is provided to return rockable portion back to its starting position ready for the next coupling operation.

  • Patent number: 4664002
Abstract: An apparatus for feeding bars to a machine tool, in particular a multispindle lathe, comprising a plurality of pairs of opposed arrays of respectively stationary and movable jaws extending radially from a rotary drum, wherein the movable array of each pair can be distanced from the opposed, stationary array through the intermediary of a control system. The stationary arrays are formed of side-by-side sets of jaws extending radially in one piece from respective central hubs fitted onto the drum and there locked against rotation, whereas the movable arrays are secured to radial tongues swing-mounted on axles carried by the stationary arrays. The control system for the movable arrays is, on the contrary, carried by sets of radial tongues extending from respective central hubs which are also fitted and locked to the drum between the sets of jaws.

  • Patent number: 4627779
Abstract: A device for withdrawing from a bar pusher and thereafter unloading the crop-ends of metal bars in a bar feeding apparatus for a multi-spindle lathe, the device being suitable also for placing a new bar on the bar pusher, is disclosed; the device of the invention is comprised essentially of a pair of movable jaws which by a turning movement close onto the crop-end of a metal bar and lock the crop-end therebetween; the crop-end is the residual part of the lathe machining of the metal bar; thereafter the jaws accomplish a translation movement to detach the crop-end from a bar pusher which formerly caused the bar forwarding in the feeding apparatus of the lathe; the jaws thereafter open slowly dropping the crop-end in a proper unloading zone; finally the jaws close onto a new metal bar to be machined and, by a further translation movement in the direction opposite to the former one, perform the insertion of the new metal bar end into the bar pusher.

  • Patent number: 4610591
Abstract: A control device for feeding metal bars to guide equipment for feeding an automatic multiple-spindle lathe. The device consists of a series of drive shafts, each of which accounts for the feeding of a bar. The shafts are equal in number to the lathe spindles and are placed in a drum that rotates synchronously with the lathe spindle holding drum. Each of these shafts can be coupled with a drive element when a certain length of bar is to be fed. The coupling takes place through engaging and disengaging parts mounted between the shaft and the drive element. Each shaft controls at least one gear for feeding a bar, through a chain or the like provided with a bar-pusher, when the shaft is made to turn. The gear can be moved to make the device usable with lathes having different spindle center distances.
