  • Publication number: 20100132803
Abstract: Systems and methods for monitoring and controlling water consumption in a water-supply system are disclosed using one or more sensors for generating signals indicative of the operation thereof. In one embodiment, a method of preventing freezing of a water conduit in a water-supply system comprises sensing, with a temperature sensor, a temperature at a location; and, if the sensed temperature falls below a predetermined threshold, sending, to at least one fluid control device interfaced with the conduit, at least one control signal to impede a flow of water through the conduit and to drain water from the conduit.

  • Publication number: 20100133258
Abstract: A system is disclosed that advantageously monitors a status of a relief valve coupled to a water heater or other pressure vessel. By monitoring the relief valve, the system can limit the energy and water wasted resulting from the relief valve's failure. The system can have first and second sensors that monitor a temperature and pressure within the relief valve, and a water flow from the relief valve, respectively. If the temperature or pressure within the relief valve exceeds predetermined thresholds, or a water flow from the relief valve continues for greater than a predetermined interval, the system can restrict a flow of gas, electric current, or water to the water heater.

  • Publication number: 20100114386
Abstract: Systems and methods for monitoring and controlling water consumption in a water-based system are disclosed using one or more sensors for generating signals indicative of the operation thereof. One or more interface modules are provided as breaker circuits for receiving the generated signals, and a fluid control device is operable for limiting the water consumption. A motherboard receives the interface modules and provides communication therebetween for information processing. Signals from the various sensors are supplied to a controller, which provides signals to status indicators, and also operates to provide alarm signals via network interfaces to remote locations. In an alternate embodiment, a water monitoring system is designed to shut off the water supply to the water device and to shut off either the electrical supply or the gas supply to the heating unit of the water device in response to sensing a malfunction through one or more sensed parameters.

  • Publication number: 20100101143
Abstract: An apparatus designed to securely hang any size pot to all types of fences, for the purpose of growing flowers or various vegetable plants off the ground and in confined areas. The fence pot hanger can be manufactured to a preset pot size with no adjustments, or can be manufactured with an adjustable spring rim holder that fits and slides over the top hanger main body and locks at a desired height to accommodate larger or small pots. By pushing the spring lever back, causes the pot rim holder to move up or down and firmly secures the rim holder inside the pot. There are additional holes in the main fence pot hanger to provide secure anchor by way of securing the pot to the hanger main body using nylon straps or other means while providing additional drain holes to the pot. This can prevent accidental mishaps when accidentally nudged or possibly strong winds.

  • Publication number: 20090165866
Abstract: A valve is disclosed that has a control ball. The control ball has a passageway within which a sensor is disposed. The sensor measures a characteristic of the fluid passing through the control ball. The control ball can be controlled either manually or with an electronic actuator. A method is disclosed of retrofitting an existing fluid distribution system by replacing a valve that lacks sensing capabilities with a new valve having a sensor. The sensor measures the flow, temperature, or pressure of the fluid, and provides a signal that can be remotely monitored and corresponds to the measured characteristic.

  • Publication number: 20080295233
Abstract: An electronic, dual valve normally closed, mechanical sealed waterless urinal system, free of oil sealing, where the system may be mounted to the wall of a restroom facility. The system includes a bowl portion that features a central recess in communication with a drain or sewer line. A circular housing, sized for sliding receipt within the central recess, mounts a cartridge containing first and second chambers. A first chamber includes a latching solenoid piston rod vertically movable into sealing engagement with the top drain opening in the housing. Further, the first chamber includes a flexible, one-way valve to allow the passage of fluid therethrough, while preventing gases from entering the first chamber. The second chamber includes a solenoid operable to move the piston rod to an opened position, where the latching solenoid is automated by a motion sensor control mechanism, and mechanical means to return the piston rod to a closed position.
