Patent number: 11916623Abstract: The present disclosure relates in general to telecommunications. In one of its aspects, the technology presented herein concerns a method, implemented in an Access Point (AP), for transmitting data intended for a terminal in a cell-free massive Multiple-Input and Multiple-Output (MIMO) communications system. The AP is grouped into a cluster together with other APs and the cluster operates autonomously. The cluster is connected to, and managed by, one Central Processing Unit (CPU). A message that the AP is selected to serve the terminal and data intended for said terminal are received from the CPU. Power control is independently conducted, exclusively considering the terminals that are served by the AP itself. Thereafter, said intended data is transmitted to the terminal.Type: GrantFiled: November 6, 2018Date of Patent: February 27, 2024Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (Publ)Inventors: Pål Frenger, Erik G. Larsson, Giovanni Interdonato

Publication number: 20230344676Abstract: A control node, a wireless device, an access point and methods therein, to achieve estimation of path loss and channel response in a radio link between the wireless device and the access point. The control node assigns one and the same pilot sequence to the wireless device and at least one other wireless device in communication with the access point, and further assigns different device-specific phase rotations to the wireless devices. The devices then apply their assigned phase rotations to the pilot sequence when transmitting the pilot sequence in consecutive coherence intervals to the access point which is thereby able to de-spread the received pilot sequences and estimate path loss and channel response in the radio link.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 30, 2020Publication date: October 26, 2023Inventors: Giovanni INTERDONATO, Pål FRENGER, Erik G. LARSSON

Patent number: 11329699Abstract: A disturbance mitigation method of a communication element for a distributed antenna system is disclosed. The communication element is associated with two or more antenna elements of the distributed antenna system. The method comprises acquiring channel condition information associated with at least two of a plurality of wireless communication devices served by the communication element, and partitioning the plurality of wireless communication devices into at least two groups based on the acquired channel condition information. The method also comprises, for each of the groups, determining respective pre-coding weights based on the acquired channel condition information, wherein the respective pre-coding weights of different groups are determined according to different disturbance mitigation approaches.Type: GrantFiled: October 16, 2018Date of Patent: May 10, 2022Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Giovanni Interdonato, Pål Frenger, Emil Björnson, Marcus Karlsson, Erik Larsson

Patent number: 11133907Abstract: A network node (110) and a method for downlink pilot signal assignment and transmission, and for data transmission. The network node has a plurality of antenna elements distributed over an area. The network node determines a respective Channel State Information (CSI) and/or a respective channel hardening degree for a wireless device (120) based on an uplink pilot signal. Possibly, the network node determines a mobility condition for the wireless device. Based on one or more out of: the determined respective CSI, the determined respective channel hardening degree and the determined respective mobility condition, the network node obtains a pilot utility metric for the wireless device. Further, the network node assigns a downlink pilot signal to at least one wireless device having a pilot utility metric exceeding a predetermined threshold value. Furthermore, the network node transmits, to the at least one wireless device, data and possibly an assigned downlink pilot signal.Type: GrantFiled: September 27, 2018Date of Patent: September 28, 2021Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Giovanni Interdonato, Pål Frenger, Erik G.
