Abstract: A process for the production of gallidermin comprises fermentative production of the respective biologically in-active and non-toxic pre-form(s) by either genetically engineered producer organism or mutants of the natural producer organism that are deficient for the extracelluar gallidermin pathway specific serine-pro tease. The process includes a downstream process in which a pre-form of gallidermin is isolated from the fermentation and bio-catalytically activated, followed by purification of the mature and active gallidermin.
