Patent number: 10367707Abstract: An application layer monitoring module is configured to monitor application layer packets for a call supported by a voice application and to detect an interruption in the call based on the application layer packets. A signaling layer monitoring module is configured to monitor signaling layer events associated with the voice application concurrently with monitoring of the application layer packets for the call. A correlation module is configured to correlate the interruption with the signaling layer events in response to the application layer monitoring module detecting the interruption. The correlation module is also configured to generate a key performance indicator (KPI) message including information indicating the interruption and at least one signaling layer event that is correlated with the interruption.Type: GrantFiled: November 25, 2016Date of Patent: July 30, 2019Assignee: Nokia of America CorporationInventors: Susan W. Sanders, Kazutaka Murakami, Larry Hsiao Chang, Girish P. Chandranmenon, Scott C. Miller

Patent number: 9462069Abstract: A network comprises agents which act as proxies on behalf of devices, such as wireless game devices, phones and personal digital assistants. Each agent collects information concerning a “presence status” of a device. An agent determines whether to forward messages on to a device depending on the collected presence status (e.g., active/inactive) of the device. For example, if the presence status indicates the device is active then messages will be forwarded. If, however, the status indicates the device is inactive the message will not be forwarded. Instead, the agent may act as a proxy for the device while it is inactive. By only forwarding messages when a device is active, valuable airlink time and/or bandwidth can be conserved.Type: GrantFiled: March 31, 2006Date of Patent: October 4, 2016Assignee: Alcatel LucentInventors: Girish P. Chandranmenon, Fang Hao, Scott C. Miller, Sarit Mukherjee, Tejas Naik

Publication number: 20150126287Abstract: Sessions, such as on-line gaming sessions, are maintained by proxy agents on behalf of users even when the users are inactive. The agents, along with other components, form a novel “always-on” architecture that greatly reduces the time it takes to initiate and carry out sessions.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 15, 2015Publication date: May 7, 2015Applicant: ALCATEL-LUCENT USA INC.Inventors: Girish P. Chandranmenon, Fang Hao, Scott C. Miller, Sarit Mukherjee, Tejas Naik

Patent number: 8526409Abstract: A mobile node comprises: a plurality of network interfaces, each with a respective device driver; a network layer; a multi-interface driver capable of communication with each network interface by way of the respective device driver for that network interface, the multi-interface driver handling communications from the network layer to any of the network interfaces; the multi-interface driver switching from a first one of the network interfaces to a second one of the network interfaces by changing the one of the plurality of network interfaces with which the multi-interface driver communicates, while hiding the switching from the network layer.Type: GrantFiled: September 28, 2009Date of Patent: September 3, 2013Assignee: Alcatel LucentInventors: Girish P. Patent number: 8332914Abstract: A gateway for mobile access includes a foreign agent that receives user profile data and session state data from a home authentication, authorization and accounting (AAA) system of a mobile node, and a dynamic packet filter that performs multi-layer filtering based on the user profile data. The foreign agent transfers a session from a first network to a second network without session interruption, using the session state data, when the mobile node moves from the first network to the second network. The packet filter permits Internet access by the mobile node without passing Internet data requested by the mobile node through the first network.Type: GrantFiled: June 22, 2009Date of Patent: December 11, 2012Assignee: Alcatel LucentInventors: Milind M. Buddhikot, Girish P. Chandranmenon, Seung-Jae Han, Yui-Wah Lee, Scott C. Miller, Luca Salgarelli

Patent number: 8174982Abstract: A gateway for mobile communications comprises a cache for storing network data recently downloaded from a network, a foreign agent, and a packet filter that directs requests for the network data from a mobile node to the cache. The packet filter directs the requested network data from the cache to the mobile node by way of the foreign agent, without forwarding the requested network data to a home agent of the mobile node.Type: GrantFiled: January 26, 2009Date of Patent: May 8, 2012Assignee: Alcatel LucentInventors: Milind M. Patent number: 7643459Abstract: Signaling paths and communication sessions, such as voice-over-IP sessions, can be established in substantially shorter and predictable time periods than previously thought possible over carrier-based, peer-to-peer networks (P2P). Instead of requiring a signaling pathway to traverse a large number of hops/nodes, novel architectures permit a signaling pathway to traverse a few designated host and anchor nodes that are part of a core of a P2P network. The novel architectures and related methods also make it possible to easily manage and maintain P2P networks.Type: GrantFiled: June 16, 2006Date of Patent: January 5, 2010Assignee: Alcatel-Lucent USA Inc.Inventors: Scott C. Miller, Oliver Haase, Girish P. Chandranmenon
