The cross section of the pack is shaped in adaptation to the pack contents, namely to a cigarette group in which a central row has a larger number of cigarettes than the two outer rows.

Abstract: For the production of (cigarette) packs of different configurations, for example standard pack (13), round-edged pack (14) or octagonal pack (15), subassemblies and elements of the packaging machine are exchanged and/or uncoupled from the drive. For this purpose, a pack-specific operating element is provided with a drive which has a coupling and/or uncouplable gear-mechanism parts. These, in turn, are assigned operable handling elements which allow adjustment for coupling or uncoupling or removing sub-elements.

Due to respective folding in the area of bottom wall (16), top wall (17) and side wall (15), folding webs partially overlap with outer plastic layers (19) directly facing each other and being sealed together or with the plastic layer being joined by sealing with the paper layer or a further inner layer.

Abstract: The invention relates to a process and an apparatus for producing packs, in particular cigarette packs. A change in the type of pack makes it necessary for the operators carefully to provide the correct packaging material assigned to the new type of pack. In practice, this change of material often takes place incorrectly. The invention avoid errors when the type of pack is changed in that markings, which are assigned to packaging material of different designs and are provided on the packaging material and/or the carrier thereof, in particular on a core of the reel, and/or the pack, are used to identify the packaging material and to check it for correct assignment in relation to the type of pack which is to be produced.
