  • Patent number: 5526862
Abstract: A tire, intended to be inflated but capable of running in a deflated condition, the carcass (2) of which incorporates, at each of the sidewalls (5) thereof, a first and a second reinforcing insert (16, 17) having in section a substantially lenticular form tapering to the ends, interposed between a first carcass ply (10) and a second carcass ply (11) and mutually joined at the tire maximum-chord point. Also applied to each sidewall against the carcass ply (10) turned to the inner part of the tire is an elastic support insert (13) of lenticular section having a maximum thickness portion (13a) disposed at the junction point (18) between the two reinforcing insertions (16, 17). The elastic support insert (13) comprises a substantially stiff counter core (14) of lenticular section, and a cover (15) made of elastomeric material have a low modulus of elasticity, coating the counter core (14) at one side thereof turned towards the carcass plies.

  • Patent number: 5238040
Abstract: A pneumatic tire having a carcass 1 and at each sidewall 5 thereof are a first and a second elastomeric reinforcement inserts 13, 15 interposed between a first and a second carcass plies 10, 11. Each insert is thinner towards the respective opposite radial ends of its section. The reinforcement inserts 13, 15 are adjacent and in alignment with the maximum width of the tire 2 at a point 14. A third elastomeric insert 16 of lenticular section, internally covers the first carcass ply 10 and has an area of maximum thickness 16a in substantial alignment with the point of adjacency 14 between the reinforcement inserts 13, 15. The first and second reinforcement inserts 13, 15 behave like stiff arms, mutually hinged at their point 14 of adjacency. The movement of the arms toward each other is counteracted by a third elastomeric insert 16 acting as a spring therebetween.

  • Patent number: 4705088
Abstract: A tread-pattern for tires, particularly for large-size tires destined for high-speed vehicles that have a great load-capacity. The tread-pattern is characterized by the presence of a plurality of circumferential zig-zag grooves that divide the tread-band into longitudinal ribs and by means of a plurality of sipes that divide the central ribs into a circumferential succession of blocks which the sipe-profiles render mutually indented one into the other. The profile is a broken line constituted by three successive segments of which the initial and final ones constitute the extension of a portion of the zig-zag development of the longitudinal grooves, while the central one presents a greater circumferential development than the corresponding development between the end-points of the sipe.

  • Patent number: 4703787
Abstract: The tread-pattern presents a plurality of circumferential zig-zag grooves that divide the tread-band into a plurality of ribs, and a series of sipes which divide at least the axially inner ribs, into a plurality of blocks that are reciprocally locked, one with respect to the other, in the transversal direction. The above-said grooves, are comprised by an alternated succession of narrow notches and large elliptical shaped cavities, with the greater axis constituting one side of the zig-zag, with having the cross-section, the slant of the sidewalls and the base-profile, variable with continuity.

  • Patent number: 4564055
Abstract: A vulcanized molded tire, comprising a carcass of one or more plies of rubberized cord fabric, sidewalls, a tread band with shoulders at the joining points between said sidewalls and tread, and a breaker comprising a binding structure on each lateral portion inserted between the carcass and the tread band. The carcass plies have a profile in the cross-section comprising in each shoulder a curvilinear tract with the concavity faced towards the outside of the tire, disposed in underlying position with respect to the edges of said breaker and in correspondence with said binding structures.

  • Patent number: 4420025
Abstract: An annular reinforcing structure for vehicle tires of a radial carcass has at least two radially superimposed layers of metal cords having an elongation at break between 2.6% and 3.2%. Two reinforcing rings are disposed in a radially external position at the extremities of the layers of metal cords with the axially outer edges coinciding with each other. The rings have a width between 7% and 40% of the width of the radially inner layers, and comprise metal cords having an elongation at break between 4% and 8%. The metal cords are oriented according to the longitudinal direction of the tire and are disposed in at least two radially superimposed strips.
