  • Publication number: 20240052160
Abstract: The present invention provides self-extinguishing flexible polyurethane foams, reaction mixtures and methods for making them, wherein the foam forming reaction mixture comprises an isocyanate component of one or more aromatic polyisocyanate containing two or more aromatic or phenyl groups, and an aromatic phosphorus containing flame retardant, and, separately, a polyol component which is a mixture of one or more, first polyols and one or more high molecular weight polyols, and from 7.5 to 17.5 wt. %, based on the weight of the polyol component, of a brominated polyether flame retardant having a bromine content of from 30 to 40 wt. %, and having an average hydroxyl functionality of from 2.3 to 3.5, one or more catalysts, and one or more blowing agents. The flexible polyurethane foam has a gross density of from 200 to 280 g/l.

  • Publication number: 20200325268
Abstract: Disclosed is a method for producing an open cell low-density semi-rigid polyurethane foam suitable for general use as a thermal insulating material and/or acoustical applications. The method comprises producing a flame-retardant open-celled semi-rigid polyurethane foam having an overall density of 5 to 30 kg/m2 by reacting (a) a polyisocyanate and (b) a polyol having a molecular weight of 100 to 10,000, in the presence of (c) 2,2-bis(chloromethyl)-trimethylene bis(bis(2-chloroethyl)phosphate, (d) blowing agent, and (e) optional additional components.

  • Publication number: 20060135634
Abstract: It is found that a polyurethane foam having significantly reduced or negligible amine emissions can be obtained by reacting a polyol with a polyisocyanate in the presence of a blowing agent being a carbamate, obtained from contacting carbon dioxide with an amine or alkanolamine, and further in the presence of a non-fugitive amine catalyst. A process is disclosed which has particular utility for the preparation of integral skinned foam, such as automotive steering wheels, exhibiting attractive physical performance and low volatile amine emissions.

  • Patent number: 6759444
Abstract: It has been found that non-chlorinated pentafluorobutane blowing agents may be used alone or in combination with water in flexible integral skin foams. For example, foams prepared using 1,1,1,3,3-pentafluorobutane (HFC 365mfc) alone or in combination with water or other non-cholorinated hydrocarbons such as heptafluoropropane exhibit improved physical characteristics, such as resistance to abrasion and cracking, on flex comparable to conventional chlorinated fluorocarbon blown foam.

  • Patent number: 5859285
Abstract: Disclosed is a carbamate adduct prepared by contacting carbon dioxide with an alkanolamine, preferably in a polar medium. The alkanolamine is characterized in that it consists of 1 or 2 ether linkages per molecule. The adduct finds value as a thermally decomposable blowing agent when preparing polyurethane foam and elastomeric products. Integral-skinned polyurethane products prepared in the presence of the carbamate adducts disclosed herein exhibit an enhanced abrasion resistance.
