  • Patent number: 5217611
Abstract: The apparatus has two portions wherein the first conveying portion functions to deflect and concentrate a large strip of the surface floating pollutant to be recovered, towards a narrower throat or exit section, and the second recovery portion effects the mechanical recovery of the pollutant thickened layer flowing through the throat of the first portion. The conveying portion includes a vessel itself with two floating arms symmetrically set in a "V" shape aft the vessel on its two sides, with their entrance section positioned just back the midship section of the vessel, while the throat or exit section is placed aft the vessel. The recovery portion of this equipment is a self-floating apparatus positioned immediately on the back of the throat of the conveying portion, and is towed by the vessel by means of a swinging fork.

  • Patent number: 4514299
Abstract: An apparatus for the recovery of oils or other similar pollutants floating on bodies of water, including the open seas, and a related support vessel, including a conveying apparatus and a recovery unit for the floating oils which both float autonomously and independently of each other and from the support vessel. The conveying apparatus includes two self-buoyant arms disposed in the shape of a V, flexible with respect to a vertical plane to ride the waves, and towed by the support vessel by means of two swinging forks. The recovery unit comprises two large rotating, horizontal axis drums, surrounded on the lateral and the rear sides by an apron to contain the floating oils, and is towed by the support vessel to float independently. Pumping means for the recovered oils is provided.

  • Patent number: 4511470
Abstract: An apparatus for retrieving hydrocarbon or similar products floating on waterways comprising: a floating skimming platform; an auxiliary floating support platform connected to the skimming platform but with an independent floating capability. The skimming platform includes two lateral floats set at a distance from each other and supporting a central structure including an intake channel or having at least two sections of an increasing slope, with access thresholds and exit apertures for each; a rear chamber fitted with retrieval facilities to transfer the recovered oil to storage tanks or ground facilities, and preceded by the vertical threshold which can rotate about a transverse axis and that responds to the variations of the liquid level in the rear chamber.

  • Patent number: 4473469
Abstract: An apparatus for recovering fluid substances floating on a water surface or the like, and consisting of two symmetrical floating bodies connected by means of walls which form between them a longitudinal channel which is closed at its rear end by a transversal wall. The apparatus has a bottom wall which, beginning from a front weir sill positioned near the waterline, at first descends with a small slope and then slopes down rapidly so as to form the bottom of a calm basin which also extends backwardly beyond the floating bodies, said weir sill being wider than the distance between the outer side walls of the floating bodies. A chamber is provided behind the rear wall of the basin and communicates with the basin, through an orifice arranged in the wall near the bottom. The chamber also communicates with a conduit in which is mounted a propeller which rotates at an adjustable speed.

  • Patent number: 4224162
Abstract: Apparatus for separating and removing, exclusively by mechanical means, a polluting liquid or slimes floating on water or another liquid not miscible with the polluting substance and comprising:a flexible floating platform of a specific gravity less than that of the water, at the center of which is mounted a suction device provided with at least a lower suction pipe the platform having a plurality of channels with entrance orifices arranged on the periphery thereof and provided with a weir sill, the or each suction pipe being connected, through a flexible pipe, to a pumping unit mounted on a remote fixed or floating supporting means.
