    Abstract: A base wad for shotshells integrally constructed of non-linear polyethylene and a mineral from the class consisting of asbestos, barium carbonate, chalk, and talc in approximately equal portions by weight; said base wad being dimensionally stable, having requisite flowability for snug locking with the shotshell head and the rim thereof; and being of appropriate elasticity to provide excellent sealing of the gases of explosion while being readily restored to normal condition for ease of ejection of the shotshell from the gun firing chamber.
