  • Patent number: 6589258
Abstract: A disposable surgical safety scalpel comprising a blade, fixed at one end to an elongated support or slider, sliding longitudinally inside a protective shell, to bring the blade from a retracted inoperative position, in which it is housed inside the shell, to an exposed operative position, through the action of an operator who acts on a push-button mounted on the support; a safety shield longitudinally slidably mounted on the shell, the shield moving from an advanced position, in which it covers the push-button, when the push-button is in its retracted inoperative position, for preventing the push-button from involuntary driving, to a retracted position, in which the shield does not cover the push-button; and elastic return elements to bring the blade back into the retracted inoperative position, the elastic elements acting between the support and the safety shield, such that the shield can automatically and involuntary cover the push-button, when the support is brought in its retracted inoperative position b

Abstract: A disposable surgical safety scalpel comprising a blade (3), fixed at one end to an elongated support or slider (4), sliding longitudinally inside a protective shell (5), to bring said blade (3) from a retracted inoperative position, in which it is housed inside the shell (5), to an exposed operative position, through the action of an operator who acts on a push-button (13) mounted on said support (4); a safety shield (18) longitudinally slidably mounted on said shell (5), said shield (18) moving from an advanced position, in which it covers said push-button (13), when said push-button is in its retracted inoperative position, for preventing the push-button from involuntarily driving, to a retracted position, in which said shield does not cover said push-button; and elastic return means (15) to bring the blade (3) back into the retracted inoperative position, the elastic means acting between the support (4) and the safety shield (18), such that the shield (18) can automatically and involuntary cover the push-

  • Patent number: 6022364
Abstract: A disposable surgical safety scalpel (3) with a retractable blade that can be retracted inside a protective shell (5); return of the blade into the shell (5) is operated through an elastic return means (15), acting between a blade support (4) and said shell (5). Movement of the support (4) and thus of the blade (3) is effected by operating a pivoted button (13), facing through a window (11) of the shell (5), said pivoted button (13) being provided with an automatic lock for the blade in said retracted position in the shell (5) and a voluntary lock for the blade in the position for use.

  • Patent number: 5665099
Abstract: A surgical scalpel includes a blade carried by a blade support, which is slidable within an outer sheath. The blade support is movable from a first position in which the blade is within the sheath to a second position in which the blade is exposed. One end of the blade support has a hollow cylinder, in which a stationary piston is disposed. Movement of the blade support from the first position to the second position creates a vacuum within the hollow cylinder, so that when the surgeon releases his or her grip on the scalpel, the blade support is quickly and automatically retracted to the first position.

  • Patent number: 5562634
Abstract: An intravenous catheter is provided with a cannula and a needle-guide for the cannula. A support carries the needle-guide, and has a first end from which the needle-guide extends. The support is carried in a sheath, having a diameter sufficient to permit sliding of the support and having a length sufficient to accept the full length of the needle-guide. A retractor continuously urges the support to a position in which the needle-guide is withdrawn into the sheath. The sheath has a first end which defines an opening through which the first end of the support extends, and the sheath is capable of reducing the size of the opening upon insertion of the first end of the sheath into the cannula to grip the support, and returns to its original size upon withdrawal of the first end from the cannula to release the support and permit the withdrawal of the needle-guide into the sheath under the action of the retractor.

  • Patent number: 5364360
Abstract: A needle is provided with a protective cap which is substantially cylindrical in shape and has one open end and an opposed tapered end having a central hole through which the needle can emerge. The cap has a diameter so that in use it can slide onto a cylindrical body which carries the needle.
