  • Publication number: 20080192247
Abstract: The invention relates to an optical probe for detecting SERS-active molecules. The probe can transmit incident electromagnetic radiation at a predetermined wavelength and comprises a core and a shell. The core in turn comprises a first tapered portion and a second portion. The second portion is connected to the first tapered portion and is covered at least partially by a coating of SERS-active metallic material. The first portion and the remaining part of the second portion is covered with a coating of an at least partially reflective metallic material. The invention also provides methods for making and using such an optical probe.
