  • Patent number: 5110117
Abstract: A treadmill equipped with a pair of spring loaded handles that allow the user to exercise the arms and shoulders while walking on the treadmill surface. The handles can be mounted in different rotative positions on stub shafts so that they can be oriented to meet the desires of the user. Pivotal movement of the handles is resisted by compression springs mounted on rods which slide axially when the handles are pivoted back and forth.

  • Patent number: 4489933
Abstract: An exercise device utilizing a resilient fabric sheet to form a trampoline type surface is the subject of the present invention. The flexible sheet is mounted on a framework which in turn is supported on rollers that can accommodate a turning motion. A handle bar projects upwardly to give the user of the device a hand hold while performing twisting and turning exercises. The device is constructed of extremely lightweight material which is reinforced to provide the necessary support. The device is collapsible and portable.

  • Patent number: 4363480
Abstract: An isokinetic resistance exerciser in the form of a treadmill is the subject of the present invention. An improved isokinetic resistance is provided by oversized frictional members and flat centrifugal plates which respond to centrifugal forces to cause inter-engagement of the frictional surfaces. The invention also includes a centrifugally-responsive speed register mechanism and a device for recording the total work expended by a person exercising. The centrifugally-responsive actuating mechanism employing flat plates in place of conventional weights results in improved operating characteristics.

  • Patent number: 4041760
Abstract: An exercise apparatus providing for accommodating resistance while allowing the level of resistance to the exercise force to be varied is provided by the present invention. The exercise apparatus also includes a movable arm for indicating the magnitude of the force exerted by a user of the apparatus. A frictional member is journaled on a rotatable shaft which is rotated by a user of the apparatus. This frictional member is sandwiched between two other members rotatably coupled with the shaft and engageable with the first member to create frictional resistance. Means is provided for moving one of the members a predetermined distance longitudinally of the shaft in the direction of the frictional member and for holding the member in a predetermined longitudinal position to cause it to grip the frictional member with a predetermined force. Centrifugal force responsive structure is also provided and is coupled with the other member which sandwiches the frictional member.
