  • Patent number: 7874246
Abstract: A food product alignment device for a conveyor includes a plurality of upright pins that act in pin pairs to align respective food products that approach the pin pairs on a moving conveyor. Particularly for round food products or food product stacks, a misaligned round food product will slightly pivot on the moving conveyor when contacting a first pin to be evenly positioned between the two pins of the respective pin pair. The pins are retractable to a position beneath the conveyor after the food products are aligned to allow the aligned food products to continue proceeding on the conveyor.

  • Patent number: 7603936
Abstract: A mechanism and method is provided for controllably loading multiple food loaves into the slicing station of a continuous slicing machine. The parallel loaves that are engaged by a common loaf feed drive or side-by-side, independent loaf feed drives are engaged by the loaf feed drive or drives simultaneously such that the interface or seam between a preceding loaf and a trailing loaf in different loaf feed paths are located substantially at the same location during slicing of two side-by-side loaf streams. A clamp device is provided that clamps multiple food loaves when loaded to move along the parallel food loaf paths together, wherein the clamp device can be released once the multiple food loaves are simultaneously engaged by the loaf feed drive.

  • Patent number: 7404481
Abstract: A stacking conveyor for receiving slices cut from a food loaf or slab includes a frame, an endless belt conveying surface, a carrier, a plurality of pins, and a motive mechanism. The endless belt conveying surface is supported by the frame. The carrier is arranged beneath the top surface of the endless belt conveying surface. The plurality of pins protrude upward from the carrier, each of the pins having a sharp top end. The motive mechanism is configured for raising the carrier to elevate the top ends of the pins above the top surface of the endless belt conveying surface to receive and impale a first slice of a stack. The pins are then retracted beneath the conveying surface.

  • Patent number: 7278344
Abstract: A slicing machine includes a machine frame having a food loaf delivery path arranged in a longitudinal direction, and a cutting assembly arranged in the delivery path. The cutting assembly has two longitudinally directed reciprocating blades facing upstream in the delivery path. In operation, the loaf is pressed through the cutting assembly which cuts the loaf into quarter sections. A slicing blade is arranged in the delivery path downstream of the cutting assembly, the slicing blade arranged to slice the sectioned food loaf transversely to the longitudinal direction.

  • Patent number: 6854582
Abstract: An improved stopping mechanism is provided for a conveyor that accepts one or more streams of product input and converts the one or more streams to a format that is suitable for automatic loading to a subsequent machine, wherein a stack of slices must be temporarily stopped on the conveyor while moving. The stopping mechanism includes a lower stop having a lower stack-engaging portion and a lift portion, the lift portion selectively actuatable to elevate the lower stack-engaging portion to engage a bottom surface of the stack and to lift the stack above the conveying surface. The stopping mechanism further includes an upper stop having an upper stack-engaging portion and a lowering portion, the lowering portion selectively actuatable to lower the upper stack-engaging portion to engage an upper surface of the stack.

  • Patent number: 6769337
Abstract: An improved orifice plate assembly for a loaf slicing machine, the orifice plate assembly located adjacent to a moving slicing blade includes a frame defining an opening and a first orifice-defining member and a second orifice-defining member slidably mounted together slidably on the frame. The first orifice-defining member and the second orifice-defining member, together define an orifice. An adjustment mechanism is operatively connected to the frame and to each of the first and second orifice-defining members, the adjustment mechanism when adjusted changes the orifice dimension between the first and second orifice-defining members without substantially changing a centerline location of the orifice. The adjustment mechanism includes a stud fixed to the first orifice-defining member, and two links pivotally mounted to the frame and engaged to two rods fixed to the second orifice-defining member.
