  • Publication number: 20060190059
Abstract: A cochlear stimulation apparatus includes an implantable device and an external device. The implantable device includes a receiving coil, an array of electrodes configured to be fitted within the cochlea of a user, and circuitry for receiving signals through the receiving coil and generating stimulation pulses that are directed to selected electrodes of the array. The external device is in the form of a single, integral unit. The external device includes circuitry for processing sensed sound information to generate the signals, a transfer coil for transferring the signals to the receiving coil and a ferromagnetic core for providing a low reluctance path between the transfer coil and the receiving coil.

  • Publication number: 20060184213
Abstract: Systems and methods for efficiently transmitting power using a high frequency (e.g., RF) telemetry transmitter are provided. The telemetry transmitter may include a fixed clock source (which may provide a fixed clock signal), telemetry phase shift circuitry (which may include switching circuitry and phase shifting circuitry), and a push-pull network. The telemetry phase shift circuitry generates a phase shifted clock signal that is phase shifted with respect to the fixed clock signal. The fixed and phase shifted clock signals may drive the switching circuitry to produce a high frequency signal that is passed through the push-pull network. The power or magnitude of the high frequency signal is based on the phase delay between the fixed clock signal and the phase shifted clock signal.

  • Publication number: 20050251225
Abstract: A cochlear implant system is provided that does not require a headpiece. Rather, the external coil used to transfer power and data and control signal to the implant device is integrated into the housing of the external processor. In one embodiment, where the external processor is carried within a behind-the-ear (BTE) module that is worn by a user of the cochlear implant system, the external coil is carried within the BTE module or housing, or formed as part of the ear hook used to hold the BTE module in place. Because the external transfer coil forms an integral part of the external portion of the system, the present invention does not require the use of an implanted magnet. Hence, the cochlear implant system can be described as headpieceless and magnetless (e.g., including a single external device).

  • Patent number: 4085643
Abstract: In this monophonic pedal or truncated decay system, depression of a new pedal key immediately truncates tone production of a previously played, decaying note. If two notes are played simultaneously, both will sound until one is released, whereupon that tone will be truncated immediately without decay. The inventive system operates with a time-shared electronic musical instrument wherein selected keys are assigned to respective time slots in a repetitive timing interval. During each such interval, a first flip-flop is set by occurrence of the first assigned pedal key. A second flip-flop cooperates with the first flip-flop, and is set during each time interval by occurrence of a second assigned pedal key. A third flip-flop is set at the end of each timing interval to copy the contents of the second flip-flop. The third flip-flop thus provides, during the subsequent timing interval, a signal indicating that two or more pedal keys are being played.
