Abstract: A head-mounted display (HMD) system may include a body having a right side and a left side, a display device coupled to the body and positioned to display content to a user when the HMD system is donned by the user, a right side arm coupled to the right side of the body and dimensioned such that, when coupled to a first portion of a swappable strap, the right side arm and the first portion of the strap form a first fastener, and a left side arm coupled to the left side of the body and dimensioned such that, when coupled to a second portion of the strap, the left side arm and the second portion of the strap form a second fastener. The first fastener and the second fastener may detachably secure the strap to the body of the HMD system. Various other methods and systems are also disclosed.

A sensor is embedded within the ring or mounted on a side surface of the handle to detect whether the hand of the user grasping the handle is a right hand of the user or a left hand of the user.

Abstract: An apparatus for creating haptic simulations is provided. The apparatus includes a body that defines an inner cavity, and a pair of connectors positioned adjacent to ends of the body. A wire electrically connects the connectors and is wound around a first portion of the body in a first direction and wound around a second portion of the body in an opposite direction. A ring magnet is secured to an outer surface of the body. An armature magnet is slidably positioned within the inner cavity aligned with the ring magnet due to its magnetic pull. When a current is driven through the wire, simultaneous push and pull forces are created, causing the armature magnet to oscillate within the inner cavity to create vibration. When a magnitude of the current driven exceeds a threshold, the armature magnet impacts a stop of the inner cavity to create a “click” stimulation.

Abstract: A thumbstick assembly is configured to receive user input. The thumbstick assembly receives input through depression of a thumbstick, lateral rotation of the thumbstick, or some combination thereof. The thumbstick comprises a first surface, a rod, a spherical magnet. The first surface receives contact with a user's skin. The rod comprises a first end coupled to the first surface and a second end coupled to the spherical magnet. The thumbstick assembly further comprises a cup and a ring magnet. The cup is configured to receive the spherical magnet, wherein the spherical magnet is configured to move about a pivot point within the cup. The ring magnet is positioned about an outer surface of the cup and is configured to provide a restoring torque to the movement of the spherical magnet. The thumbstick assembly comprises one or more sensors that detect movement of the thumbstick relative to the cup.
