    Abstract: A firing pin assembly with a firing pin having a shaft with a distal bearing thereon. The firing pin has a standby position, a load position, and a fire position. A cam engages the bearing and is configured to drive the shaft between the standby position and the load position. A spring about the shaft is compressed when the shaft is driven into the load position. A driver turns the cam when energized to drive the shaft from the standby position to the load position and then to turn the cam further whereupon the compressed spring urges the firing pin to fire.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for determining the orientation of an object relative to a reference magnetic field includes establishing generally adjacent to the object a modifiable magnetic field. The direction of the modifiable magnetic field is changed among a plurality of predetermined, known orientations relative to the object. A resultant magnetic field, including the reference magnetic field and the modifiable magnetic field, is repeatedly measured adjacent to the object. The step of measuring is directed outwardly from adjacent to the object in predetermined directions that are fixed relative to the object to determine when the magnitude of the resultant magnetic field is minimized or maximized indicating that the direction of the modifiable magnetic field is parallel with that of the reference magnetic field. Thereupon, the orientation of the object is correlated to the known orientation of the modifiable magnetic field.

    Abstract: A motion sensor for connecting to the housing of a gasoline dispenser which is used to dispense gasoline to vehicles. The motion sensor includes components to detect motion, such as that caused by a vehicle striking the dispenser housing, and provides a signal to a controller which cuts off electrical power through an electrical supply line to electrical components of the dispenser. With power disconnected from electrical components of the dispenser, potential arcing of electricity to those electrical components when they become damaged, or potential arcing when the electrical supply line becomes damaged can be prevented to potentially prevent a resulting fire or explosion.

    Abstract: An adaptable tip sensor is useful for detecting the angular tipping of an object relative to a selected frame of reference. The sensor comprises a case that defines a two dimensional straight sided V-groove in which a disk can roll. A sensing device detects the presence or absence of the disk within the apex of the V-groove. As long as the object does not tip to a predetermined angle, the disk remains in the V-groove apex, and the sensing device produces a first signal. If the object tips to the predetermined angle, the disk rolls out of the V-groove apex, and the sensing device produces a different signal. Fluid in the case damps spurious vibrations. A labyrinth and air bubble in the case enhance desired rolling of the disk when the predetermined tipping has occurred.

    Abstract: A rotational speed/tip sensor combines a tip sensor and a speed sensor in one compact package for use on a motorcycle. The tip sensor includes a disk and a sensing device that detects the absence or presence of the disk in the apex of a V-groove. If the motorcycle tips over, the disk rolls out of the V-groove apex and actuates the tip sensing device to open a circuit through a speed sensing device and thereby shut down the motorcycle engine. The tip and speed sensors are assembled to a housing that is mounted to the engine. Only three wires are used to connect both the tip sensing device and the speed sensing device to the engine control.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to a sensor system that uses two sensors for measuring and monitoring of angular position of a member in two or three axes. The sensor system of the present invention preferrably uses a pair of magnetoresistive sesors that are maintained in the same plane and in orthogonal configuration with respect to each other, and which reference their position according to the Earth's magnetic field or a magnetic field provided by a user. Accordingly, the sensors of the present invention are useful for a variety of purposes, including, virtually any application that requires monitoring and measurement of any combination of roll, pitch, and yaw.
