The assembly includes a return postcard, two anchor portions disposed on either side of the postcard, printer track strips having a plurality of holes for engaging a printer, such as a dot matrix printer, and a hole capable of being sensed by another type of printer, such as a thermal printer. The indicia printed upon the mailing assembly including the designator indicating the special service required, are printed using a single color thereby simplifying the printing process. The return postcard is removably attached to anchor portions such that the return postcard remains attached to the envelope until received by the addressee, at which time the return postcard may be removed from the anchor portions. The assembly is designed to incorporate a form into the return postcard to simplify preparation of the mailpiece for delivery by the special service.

Abstract: A mailing assembly for use in connection with non-domestic delivery of a mailpiece wherein the sender of the mailpiece is required to complete a sender's declaration. The assembly includes a mailing form that may be sub-divided into customs declarations forms, a dispatch notice and a backing sheet. The backing sheet may be peeled off the mailing form exposing adhesive on the backing sheet. The backing sheet may be folded in such a way as to provide an envelope to adhere to the mailpiece to be non-domestically delivered. The customs declarations forms and, dispatch notice may then be inserted into the envelope whereupon the mailpiece may be non-domestically delivered. The customs declaration forms and dispatch notice of the mailing form may be variably printed with information to aid in the non-domestic delivery of the mailpiece.

The label is adapted to indicate thereon mailing and address information relating to the mailing, shipping or handling of packages or articles. The label is constructed as a laminate having a primary layer and a secondary layer wherein each layer has a surface confronting and adjoined to the other layer. Mailing information is included on a front side and may also include spaces for receiving additional mailing information thereon. The label has a tear line provided on the primary label which defines a removable receipt flap on the label. The receipt flap contains a portion of the mailing label and is adapted to receive additional information. An area is exposed beneath the receipt flap on the secondary layer when the receipt flap is removed from the primary layer along the tear line.

One or more of the detachable parts may then be removed from the second layer and may be attached to the document to be recorded.

The system has a mailpiece handler for accepting mailpieces having a machine readable code. The system also has a data storage unit for storing addressee and/or sender data related to the mailpieces. A code reader constructed and arranged to read the machine-readable code on the mailpieces is provided. An imaging unit is provided for imaging data onto special service forms wherein the data is obtained from the data storage unit. Further, an assembly unit assembles the special service forms to the mailpieces. Further, a method of fully automating imaging of special service forms and affixing same to an envelope is also provided.

Abstract: An assembly for mailing an article requiring delivery by a special service and a method and system for imaging the same are provided. The assembly includes a generic mailing label having a back side adhesively and detachably affixed to a backing sheet as well as a multi-colored panel ribbon for imprinting special service mailing information thereon. The label may be imaged with all of the information necessary, including a colored background, to serve as one of many types of special service mailing labels. Removal of the label from the associated backing sheet allows the label to be permanently affixed to a mailpiece. Upon delivery of the mailpiece, a return receipt postcard portion of the label may be removed and forwarded to the sender of the mailpiece as a return receipt.

The sender may desire to send an article by one of the two special services. The form provides a choice for the sender with regard to the type of special service desired. Detachable parts are provided on a sheet for subsequent attachment to the mailpiece or shipping item following printing thereof. The form includes a number of adhesively backed label sections and a return postcard section for selective attachment to selected areas of a mailpiece or shipping item to identify the mailpiece or shipping item and simplify the task of designating special services for a particular mailpiece or shipping item. The form is designed so that information unique to the mailpiece, such as the identification of the sender and addressee and special handling requests, can be printed on one side of the form only.

Abstract: A label/form is provided for effecting delivery of a mailpiece by a special service. The label/form contains detachable parts for subsequent attachment to a return postcard and/or a mailpiece to effect delivery of the mailpiece by the special service. Further, a plurality of auxiliary labels are provided. The auxiliary labels correspond to address labels, receipt labels and/or a special service designator section. A second special services designator section may be provided to give the sender of the mailpiece a choice between two or more special services.
