  • Patent number: 8635997
Abstract: Systems and methods for controlling gas to gas-fired appliances are disclosed. An illustrative system can include a modulating gas valve adapted to supply gas to a burner unit, an inducer fan adapted to produce a combustion air flow at the burner unit, a pressure reducing element in fluid communication with the gas valve and adapted to output at least one pressure signal for sensing the combustion air flow outputted by the inducer fan, and a controller for controlling the speed of the inducer fan. The pressure reducing element can include a venturi tube, flow nozzle, or other suitable device capable of producing pneumatic signals that can be used by the gas valve to modulate the gas supplied to the burner unit. By pneumatically linking the gas valve to the actual combustion air flow, the gas valve can be operated over a wide range of firing rates by adjusting the speed of the inducer fan.

  • Patent number: 7741941
Abstract: An electromagnetic valve assembly having a dual armature solenoid for controlling two valves is disclosed. In one embodiment, the solenoid may include a first pole piece, a second pole piece spaced from the first pole piece, a coil disposed about at least a portion of the first pole piece, a first armature extending laterally across the first pole piece and the second pole piece, and a second armature extending laterally across the first pole piece and the second pole piece. In one illustrative embodiment, the first armature and the second armature pivot relative to the second pole piece. In another illustrative embodiment, the first armature and the second armature pivot relative to the first pole piece. In yet another illustrative embodiment, the first armature and the second armature pivot relative to opposite pole pieces. In any case, the coil may electromagnetically actuate the first and second armatures to selectively open and/or close corresponding valves or other actuatable components.

  • Patent number: 6189568
Abstract: A gas flow control valve configured to facilitate back-to-back mounting with a second, similarly constructed valve. The gas valve includes a valve body defining an inlet port and an outlet port, the inlet and outlet ports being surrounded by seal forming O-rings of different diameters. Flanges surrounding the inlet and outlet ports are configured with distinct attachment features for accommodating bolts for securing one valve in series with another or with a pipe flange or other auxiliary device, the inlet flange having either a slot dimensioned to hold and prevent rotation of a bolt head or nut, or a clearance slot permitting use of a wrench, and the outlet flange having the other slot configuration.
