  • Patent number: 6506945
Abstract: A process for preparing an ether-capped poly(oxyalkylated) alcohol surfactant is provided. The alcohol has the formula: RO(R1O)xCH(CH3)OR2 wherein R is selected from the group consisting of linear or branched, saturated or unsaturated, substituted or unsubstituted, aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon radicals having from about 1 to about 30 carbon atoms; R1 may be the same or different, and is independently selected from the group consisting of branched or linear C2 to C7 alkylene in any given molecule; x is a number from 1 to about 30; and R2 is a six membered substituted or unsubstituted, saturated or unsaturated, cyclic or aromatic hydrocarbon radical.

  • Patent number: 6495727
Abstract: A process for preparing an ether-capped poly(oxyalkylated) alcohol surfactant having the formula R1O[CH2CH(R3)O]xCH2CH(OH)CH2OR2 wherein R1 and R2 are linear or branched, saturated or unsaturated, aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon radicals having from 1 to about 30 carbon atoms; R3 is H, or a linear aliphatic hydrocarbon radical having from 1 to about 4 carbon atoms; x is an integer having an average value from 1 to about 30, wherein when x is about 2 or greater R3 may be the same or different; further wherein when x is about 15 or greater and R3 is H and methyl, at least four of R3 are methyl, further wherein when x is about 15 or greater and R3 includes H and from 1 to 3 methyl groups, then at least one R3 is ethyl, propyl or butyl, further wherein R2 can optionally be alkoxylated, wherein said alkoxy is selected from ethoxy, propoxy, butoxy and mixtures thereof; said process comprising the steps of: (b) providing a glycidyl ether having the formula:  wherein R2 is define

  • Publication number: 20020151634
Abstract: Coating compositions, methods and articles of manufacture comprising a nanoparticle system employing same to impart surface modifying benefits for all types of soft surfaces, and in some cases, hard surfaces, are disclosed. In some embodiments, dispersement of nanoparticles in a suitable carrier medium allows for the creation of coating compositions, methods and articles of manufacture that create multi-use benefits to the modified surfaces. These surface modifications can produce long lasting or semi-permanent multi-use benefits that, in some embodiments, may include at least one of the following improved surface properties: cleaning, wettability, liquid strike-through, comfort, stain resistance, soil removal, malodor control, modification of surface friction, reduced damage to abrasion and color enhancement, relative to the surfaces unmodified with such nanoparticle systems.

  • Publication number: 20020123443
Abstract: A method of removing cooked-, baked-, or burnt-on food soil from cookware and tableware comprising washing the cookware/tableware in an automatic dishwashing machine in the presence of an organic solvent system having a volatile organic content of less than about 50% by weight and a wash liquor concentration of from about 100 ppm to about 10000 ppm. The method includes the storage and delivery of organic solvent compositions and dishwashing detergent composition from multi-compartment containers. The method provides excellent removal of stubborn soils which are very difficult to remove in a conventional automatic dishwashing process.

  • Publication number: 20020045010
Abstract: Materials for coating, coating compositions, methods and articles of manufacture comprising a nanoparticle system or employing the same to impart surface modifying benefits for all types of inanimate hard surfaces are disclosed. In some embodiments, dispersement of nanoparticles in a suitable carrier medium allows for the creation of coating compositions, methods and articles of manufacture that create multi-use benefits to modified hard surfaces. These surface modifications can produce long lasting or semi-permanent multi-use benefits that include at least one of the following improved surface properties: wetting and sheeting, quick drying, uniform drying, soil removal, self-cleaning, anti-spotting, anti-soil deposition, cleaner appearance, enhanced gloss, enhanced color, minor surface defect repair, smoothness, anti-hazing, modification of surface friction, release of actives and transparency, relative to hard surfaces unmodified with such nanoparticle systems.
