  • Patent number: 7668810
Abstract: A data storage system which copies data from source data storage volumes to target data storage volumes restricts a write operation to at least one source data storage volume (FREEZE), to prevent the updating of a source while the data of a consistency group of interdependent data is being copied. Program logic selects a source data storage volume to which the restriction applies as a verification volume; and the program logic responds to a verification request to first employ the verification volume to verify that the restriction remains in place with respect to the verification volume, and to allow a reset of the restriction (THAW).

  • Patent number: 7613946
Abstract: An apparatus, system, and method are disclosed for recovering multivolume data. In one embodiment, a backup module physically backs up a plurality of source volumes to plurality of backup volumes. A data set size module may also capture a data set size for a data set during the physical backup. A retrieval module retrieves metadata for the data set from a catalog. A location module locates the data set on the plurality of backup volumes using the metadata. A recovery module recovers the data set as a recovered data set from the plurality of backup volumes. • Publication number: 20090162475
Abstract: A system and method for mixing and forming gum structures is provided. The system may include combinations of continuous and batch mixers arranged generally in series for mixing gum base ingredients with subsequent gum ingredients. In one embodiment, the system and method first forms a gum structure that is not a gum base and then adds a subsequent gum ingredient such that the gum structure is less than a gum base in combination with a subsequent gum ingredient. In other embodiments, the system and method includes forming a gum base in addition to some subsequent gum ingredients that are not quite finished gum. Further, in other embodiments, the system and method may perform some of the mixing of the ingredients at a first location while mixing of further ingredients is performed at a remote location.

  • Publication number: 20090125689
Abstract: Provided are a system and article of manufacture for providing an address format compatible with different addressing formats used for addressing different sized address spaces. An address format is used in an operating system to address storage space in a storage device comprising a first region and a second region of storage space. A first group of applications uses the address format to only address the storage space in the first region and is not coded to use the address format to access the second region and a second group of applications uses the address format to address the storage space in the first and second regions.

  • Publication number: 20080162930
Abstract: The present disclosure describes apparatus, methods, and system for secure access control of an intelligent electronic device (“IED”) by multiple personnel. Within the IED a set of basic permissions is defined. A software program allows a security administrator create specific roles from the basic permissions. The software program can then be used to assign to a user a specific role for one or more specific IEDs. This action creates a set of unique security keys for the user and a unique security file for each IED. When a user accesses an IED the system identifies the user from the security key and determines his/her permissions using the security file. The security key may take the form of a password inputted into the IED, an access device incorporated within the IED, and/or a remote access device positioned proximate the IED or removably positioned in the IED.

  • Patent number: 7287181
Abstract: A secondary volume of a mirrored volume pair is replicated by suspending the mirroring operations, associating a selected volume identifier with the secondary volume, replicating the secondary volume to a backup volume, and associating the original secondary volume identifier with the backup volume. In some embodiments the original secondary volume identifier is written to a hidden field on the secondary volume and the hidden field is copied to the backup volume identifier field after the replication. In some embodiments the actions of suspending the mirror operations, managing the volume identifiers, replicating the secondary volume to a backup volume, synchronizing the secondary volume with the primary volume, and reestablishing the mirror pair are performed as an automated sequence. The resultant replication method is less costly and error prone because it may be created by an automated process rather than manual commands issued by a system administrator.

  • Publication number: 20070122296
Abstract: A turbocharger with a two-stage compressor having first- and second-stage impellers mounted on a common shaft in a back-to-back configuration. The first-stage impeller has a boreless configuration, defining an unthreaded pilot hole receiving an unthreaded end of the shaft so as to establish a coaxial relationship between the impeller and the shaft. The first impeller further defines a hollow cylindrical pilot member that projects from the back of the impeller and is received in a portion of the bore through the second-stage impeller to position the impellers coaxially with each other. The shaft passes through the pilot member and is externally threaded for engaging threads on the inner surface of the pilot member to secure the impellers to the shaft. The bore of the second impeller has a second portion that engages an outer cylindrical surface of the shaft to establish a coaxial relationship between the shaft and impeller.

  • Patent number: 7130931
Abstract: Provided are a method, system, and article of manufacture for copying storage. A request is received from a host application to copy a plurality of source storage units. A list of potential target storage units is determined based on a policy. Potential target storage units that are eligible for fast replication are selected from the determined list, wherein the selection of the potential target storage units for fast replication includes determining whether a storage unit in the list of potential target storage units is eligible for fast replication by processing an attribute associated with the storage unit.

  • Publication number: 20060217206
Abstract: A constant velocity coupling 10, 305 which rotabably connects an input shaft 11 to an output shaft 12 by means of a control mechanism or control system 21, 309 which, in particular forms, includes a gimbal arrangement comprised of an inner yoke 22 rotatably connected to an outer yoke 16. The control mechanism including control yoke 21 constrains at least portions of the coupling to lie on or in association with a homokinetic plane 300 of the coupling. In particular forms the control mechanism operates symmetrically about supplementary angle bisector 308.

  • Publication number: 20060198727
Abstract: A two-stage radial compressor having a ported second-stage shroud, forming a passive surge control system. Thus, some proportion of the fluid is allowed to flow between the second-stage of the compressor in the vicinity of the impeller blade tips, through a port in the shroud into an upstream portion of the compressor flow path that leads into the second-stage impeller inlet. The fluid is allowed to flow in either direction, depending on the pressure difference existing between the two locations. Surge margin at higher pressure ratios is significantly increased by the ported second-stage shroud.

  • Publication number: 20060013682
Abstract: Turbochargers comprise a compressor housing having an air inlet passage for receiving inlet airflow, an air outlet passage for passing pressurized air to an engine combustion system, and a compressor impeller rotatably disposed within the housing for receiving air from the air inlet passage, pressurizing the inlet air, and passing the pressurized air to the air outlet passage. An air flow conditioner is placed into air flow communication with the compressor housing air inlet passage, and can be disposed within an air inlet section of the compressor itself, or can be placed within a vehicle air ducting positioned upstream from the turbocharger.
