    Abstract: The present disclosure relates to lead-acid batteries and the manufacture of lead-acid batteries containing acid pump devices to promote the circulation of electrolyte within the battery and/or battery cells to reduce acid stratification and improve battery performance. In various embodiments, battery cell components are assembled within an acid pump assembly that encloses the battery cell components on at least the bottom and ends. In various embodiments, at least a portion of the acid pumps may be integrally molded with or secured to various parts of the battery housing including the cover, side walls, and cell walls. In various embodiments; space for the acid pumps is created by varying the shape of the battery housing (e.g., the side walls or cell walls) and/or by modifying the shape, size, and or position of one or more of the battery electrodes or separators.

A first side frame member is coupled to the top frame member at a first end thereof. A second side frame member is coupled to the top frame member at a second end thereof. A bottom frame member is spaced apart from the top frame member and coupled to the first side frame member and the second side frame member. The negative grid does not include exposed wire ends that may puncture a polymeric separator when the negative grid is provided within the separator.

A battery cover is secured to the battery housing and has a cover recess in an outer surface. A handle is provided which has a crossbar interconnecting first and second arms. The handle is pivotally attached to the battery cover in the recess. The battery handle is pivotable between a raised position relative to the battery cover and a lowered position in which the first and second arms and the crossbar are positioned within the cover recess. A cam is carried by the handle and positioned to interact with a surface on the battery cover. A first mating attachment element is also carried by the handle and mates with a second mating attachment element carried by the battery cover. A battery handle and a method of attaching a handle to a battery cover are also disclosed.

A second bushing is also provided having a second dimension that mates with a corresponding second dimension of a negative cast-on-strap post.
