  • Publication number: 20190352513
Abstract: Disclosed are energy curable primer compositions for use on uneven substrates such as paper or board to help create a non-porous, smooth, print-receptive surface for subsequent in-line or off-line application of metallic or special effect inks for generating a superior appearance such as a mirror-like metallic or other special effect for promotional or high-value packaging applications. Compositions suitable for low odor and low migration indirect contact food, tobacco, or pharmaceutical product packaging are also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20180134904
Abstract: The present invention describes hydrophobic hybrid solvent-based and energy curable compositions that include monomers and/or oligomers that have a composite molar average functionality greater than 1; optionally a photoinitiator; hydrophobic nanoparticles with particle size 1 nm to 30 ?m; and one or more solvents. The reaction product of the monomers and/or oligomers is a polymer having greater than 1% mole % alkylenic reactive sites of unsaturation. The surfaces of the compositions are hydrophobic when dried and cured. In certain embodiments, the compositions are super-hydrophobic. The compositions further maintain robust hydrophobicity after aging at elevated temperature.

  • Publication number: 20160333203
Abstract: Provided are energy curable inks and coatings, comprising acrylated silicone and monomers/oligomers containing acrylate functional groups, that have improved adhesion on flexible substrates, such as non-chemical coated flexible films at fast speed. The energy curable inks and coatings have a robust slide angle upon surface abrasion, resulting in a reduction of the slippage of printed substrates, such as bags, when piled on top of each other. Also provided are raw material screening methods for quantifying acrylate group concentration, which is used to adjust the ink or coating formula to improve the cure at the surface and bottom and to improve tape adhesion and MEK resistance of energy cured inks and coatings.
