  • Patent number: 5058984
Abstract: A tubular connector body (10) has one end (11) for receiving an optical fibre cable (1) having a plastics outer sleeve (3) protecting an optical fibre (2) and carries at the other end (12) connection means (20) for coupling to another similar connection body. A ferrule (30) is mounted within the other end (12) of the connector body (10) to support an exposed end portion (2a) of the optical fibre (2) within an irradiation settable adhesive material (40) injected into the ferrule (30). A deformable gripping member (50) is inserted into the one end (11) of the connector body (10) to grip an end portion (3a) of the plastics outer sleeve (3) of the cable upon deformation of the gripping member (50) by application of a force to the one end (11) of the tubular connector body (10).

  • Patent number: 5052774
Abstract: A connector (1) is provided for carrying an end portion of a fiber optic cable (2) to enable the cable to be conencted, via a coupling member, to another fiber optic cable. The connector (1) has an outer sleeve (3) having at one end (3a) connection means (4,26) for coupling to the coupling member and an inner sleeve (5) extending axially through the outer sleeve (3) so that one end (5a) of the inner sleeve is received within the outer sleeve (3) and the other (5b) of the inner sleeve (5) projects from the other end (3b) of the outer sleeve (3) to engage a protective sheath (20) of the cable (2). Locating means (6) are fixedly provided within the outer sleeve for limiting axial movement of the inner sleeve (5) within the outer sleeve (3).

  • Patent number: 4590957
Abstract: A bursting disc assembly comprises a generally tubular body provided with an external screw thread and, at one end of the body, a counterbore which forms an annular seat within the body to accommodate at least the peripheral regions of a preferably flat bursting disc; a bursting disc located on the seat and a plug with a longitudinal bore pushed into and a tight fit within the counterbore so as to hold the bursting disc in place, the plug being prevented from rotating with respect to the body by knurls which bite into the walls of the counterbore. In use, the assembly is screwed into the housing of a pressure relief device so that the free end of the plug bears against and forms a fluid-tight seal with an opening in the base of the housing and at the same time, the other end of the plug compresses the bursting disc against the seat so as to form fluid-tight seals between plug, bursting disc and seat.

  • Patent number: 4550743
Abstract: A bursting disc orientation device comprises a cut-away portion (7) on a predetermined one collar (2) of the bursting disc unit and cooperable with the cut-away portion, a projection (8) e.g. in the form of an arm of an angle bracket (9) secured to the periphery, or integral therewith, of that pipe flange (5) against which the said one collar (2) is required to bear. Thus, the unit can be prevented from being located between the pipe flanges of the bursting disc unit in other than a predetermined orientation in which the projection (8) is located in the cut-away portion (7). This improves the safety of the device.
