  • Patent number: 5047094
Abstract: This invention relates to a process for coating a surface of a metal I, such as iron, steel, zinc, copper, tin or aluminum with a hydroxy oxime complex of metal II which may be lead of zinc. The complex can be incorporated in a surface coating composition.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 20, 1989
Date of Patent: September 10, 1991
    Assignee: Imperial Chemical Industrials, PLC
Inventors: Bernard Tury, Glyn R. John, Noreen L. Thomas
  • Patent number: 4865647
Abstract: A composition containing a substituted cyclic anhydride and a hydroxy-oxime. The cyclic anhydride may be a succinic anhydride derivative such as dodecenyl succinic anhydride or a polymer containing cyclic anhydride groups such as polyisobutenyl succinic anhydride. The oxime may be 2-hydroxy-5-nonylbenzaldoxime or 2-hydroxy-5-nonylacetophenone oxime. The composition may be used to inhibit corrosion of metals, particularly iron. The composition may also include further components which are effective to reduce metal corrosion.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 12, 1988
Date of Patent: September 12, 1989
    Assignee: Imperial Chemical Industries PLC
Inventors: Glyn R. John, Bernard Tury, Campbell F. Walker
  • Patent number: 4760197
Abstract: A process which comprises contacting the surface of a metal with an alkyl or acyl substituted catechol. The contacting may be effected using the substituted catechol alone or in a suitable medium for example as a solution or emulsion. The contacting is effective in providing corrosion inhibition even with lightly rusted iron surfaces.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 15, 1987
Date of Patent: July 26, 1988
    Assignee: Imperial Chemical Industries PLC
Inventors: Bernard Tury, Glyn R. John, Edward G. Scovell
  • Patent number: 4725320
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for contacting a surface of a metal I such as iron, steel, zinc, cooper, tin or aluminum with a hydroxy oxime complex of metal II which may be zinc or lead. Said complex may be incorporated in a surface coating composition.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 26, 1987
Date of Patent: February 16, 1988
    Assignee: Imperial Chemical Industries PLC
Inventors: Bernard Tury, Glyn R. John, Noreen L. Thomas
  • Patent number: 4613384
Abstract: The invention discloses a process to inhibit corrosion of mild galvanized steel by treatment with an optionally substituted bis(oximinomethyl)alkyl phenol, especially 2,6-bis(oximinomethyl)-4-nonyl or dodecyl phenols.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 16, 1985
Date of Patent: September 23, 1986
    Assignee: Imperial Chemical Industries PLC
    Inventor: Glyn R. John
  • Patent number: 4493876
Abstract: Corrosion inhibition of metals (especially iron, zinc, copper, tin and aluminium and in particular mild steel and the zinc surface of galvanized steel) is provided by treatment with an optionally substituted 2-hydroxy-5-alkylbenzaldoxime wherein the 5-alkyl group contains from 7 to 13 carbon atoms. The benzaldoxime may be applied directly or as a solution in an organic solvent or as an aqueous emulsion. The benzaldoxime may be formulated in a surface coating composition.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 16, 1984
Date of Patent: January 15, 1985
    Assignee: Imperial Chemical Industries PLC
Inventors: Kevin Birkett, Edward G. Scovell, Glyn R. John
