  • Publication number: 20100108319
Abstract: A method for using an engineered fluid in a manner that reduces or minimizes waste includes applying the engineered fluid to a container having a settled component of a stored fluid, retrieving the applied engineered fluid and at least a portion of the settled component from the container, and using the applied engineered fluid at least once in the same manner as the stored fluid was used. In certain applications, the applied engineered fluid may be put to a different use. The engineered fluid may be processed prior to use.

  • Publication number: 20080128173
Abstract: A system for handling drill cuttings conveys cuttings into bulk tanks via a conduit. The bulk tanks have a lower portion that converges to an elongated opening. A conveyance member positioned at the elongated opening forces the cuttings out of a discharge port at the bottom of the bulk tank. Once suitable conveyance member is a screw-type conveyor coupled to a motor that applies a motive force to the cuttings. The bulk tank lower portion can be formed as a wedge or trough that generally conforms to the configuration of the conveyance member. The bulk tanks hold the cuttings until it can be discharged via the discharge port to a transport vessel for processing or disposal. For offshore operations, the system includes a separation unit on the rig that forms the cuttings from fluid returning from the wellbore and a cuttings flow unit that conveys the cuttings from the separation unit to the bulk tanks.

  • Patent number: 6585115
Abstract: An apparatus and method for removing and recovering up to 98 percent of the residual drilling mud and fluids from drill cuttings for reuse and storing the drill cuttings in a relatively dry state thereby reducing cuttings volume requirements for storage and transport thereby reducing constipation of the drilling process due to disposal congestion. The present invention further provides methods for collecting and transferring drill cuttings in either dry or wet states to various locations on or adjacent the rig for processing, containerization, transport and disposal, thereby reducing handling and contamination thus simplifying recycling while reducing cost.
